Cagliari and Sassuolo square off in Serie A soccer action from the Sardegna Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Cagliari come into this match in 11th place on 41 points with a record of 10 wins, 11 draws and 12 losses following a 3-0 loss to Sampdoria last time out. In the loss to Sampdoria, Cagliari fell behind in the 8th minute before La Samp doubled their lead in the 40th minute. Things got worse for Cagliari before they got better, as Sampdoria potted a 3rd goal in the 53rd minute and they’d ride that lead to the finish, leaving Cagliari empty-handed without even a goal to show for their efforts for the 4th straight game. Joao Pedro leads Cagliari in scoring with 17 goals while Giovanni Simeone has 10 goals and Radja Nainggolan has 6 goals and a team-high 7 assists.
Sassuolo on the other hand, come into this match in 8th place on 47 points with a record of 13 wins, 8 draws and 12 losses following a 3-3 draw with Juventus in their last match. In the draw with Juve, Sassuolo fell behind in the 6th minute and Juventus would double their lead in the 12th minute before Filip Djuricic got Sassuolo on the board in the 29th minute. Domenico Berardi tied the game at two in the 51st minute and Francisco Caputo would shock Juventus three minutes later, giving Sassuolo a 3-2 lead. Juventus would pull a goal back to tie the game at three ten minutes later, and that’s all the action we’d see the rest of the way in what finished as one of the most entertaining games of the season as the teams shared the points. Caputo leads Sassuolo in scoring with 17 goals along with a team-high 7 assists while Berardi has 13 goals with 7 assists of his own. Jeremie Boga also has 11 goals for Sassuolo this season. Andrea Consigli is Sassuolo’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.7 goals per 90 minutes with 4 clean sheets in 27 league appearances this season.
The draw is a popular play when these two meet, as three of the last four meetings have ended all square, including the reverse fixture back in December. However, while the over is as popular with 11 goals in the last three head-to-head meetings, Cagliari’s had issues scoring with no goals in their last four games and Sassuolo while impressive during their unbeaten run, has a tendency to play down to lesser opposition, so I’ll take the under 3 goals for even money as my free pick for this game, but my stronger play is on the side which I have available as a premium pick that you can find here.
