Real Sociedad takes on Sevilla in La Liga soccer action from the Reale Seguros Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Real Sociedad come into this match in 7th place on 54 points with a record of 16 wins, 6 draws and 14 losses following a 2-1 win over Villarreal last time out. In the win over Villarreal, the game was scoreless in the first half, but Willian Jose would give Sociedad the lead in the 61st minute. Diego Llorente would push Sociedad 2-0 ahead in the 75th, but Villarreal would pull a goal back ten minutes later. That’s as close as Villarreal would get though as Sociedad held on for the win. Jose leads Sociedad in scoring with 11 goals while Mikel Oyarzabal has 10 goals and a team-high 11 assists this season.
Sevilla on the other side of the coin, enter this match in 4th position on 66 points with a record of 16 wins, 12 draws and 6 losses following a 2-0 win over Mallorca last time out. In the victory over Mallorca, Lucas Ocampos gave Sevilla the lead from the penalty spot in the 41st minute and despite Mallorca’s best efforts to get back into the game in the second half with 4 shots on target, it wouldn’t be enough as Youssef En Nesyri locked up the result for Sevilla by making it 2-0 in the 84th minute. Lucas Ocampos leads Sevilla in scoring with 14 goals while Ever Banega has a team-high 7 assists for Sevilla this season. Tomas Vaclik is Sevilla’s leading goalkeeper, conceding 0.92 goals per 90 minutes with 14 clean sheets in 33 league appearances this season.
I’m having a hard time splitting hairs in this game and usually when that happens I’m inclined to side with the draw. However, Sociedad’s gone 0-5-2 since the restart before the win over Villarreal and one win isn’t going to turn things around for me right away. Sevilla on the other hand is locked in either 3rd or 4th and it’s just about pride at this point and possibly playing spoiler. Either way, I see a somewhat competitive game here and given Sevilla’s recent form I think both teams find the net here so I’ll side with both teams to score as my bet for this match.
