Mallorca takes on Granada in La Liga soccer action from the Visit Mallorca Estadi on Thursday afternoon.
Mallorca enters this match in 18th place on 32 points with a record of. 9 wins, 5 draws and 22 losses following a 2-0 loss to Sevilla in their last match. In the loss to Sevilla, Mallorca fell behind from the penalty spot in the 41st minute and the lead would hold for much of the second half until Sevilla doubled their advantage in the 84th minute. Mallorca would try to get back into the game throughout with 5 shots on target, but in the end, Sevilla would hold on and put more pressure on Mallorca as the drop zone looms larger for Mallorca with two games to go. Ante Budimir leads Mallorca in scoring with 12 goals while Takefusa Kubo has a team-high 4 assists this season. Manuel Reina is Mallorca’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.57 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 35 league appearances this season.
Granada on the other hand, come into the game in 10th place on 50 points with a record of 14 wins, 8 draws and 14 losses following a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid last time out. In the loss to Madrid, Granada went from being tied at nil to down 2-0 in a span of six minutes in the 10th and 16th minutes. The 2-0 deficit for Granada would hold into the second half where Darwin Machis got Granada on the board in the 50th minute of play, but in the end, the equalizer wouldn’t come as Real slammed the door shut over the course of the remaining 40+ minutes, sending Granada back empty-handed. Carlos Fernandez leads Granada in scoring with 8 goals while Machis has 7 goals along with a team-high 5 assists. Victor Diaz also has 5 assists for Granada this season. Rui Tiago is Granada’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.18 goals per 90 minutes with 11 clean sheets in 33 league appearances this season.
There’s going to be a lot of pressure for both sides coming into this one as Granada still has a slim chance of making it to the Europa League while Mallorca is fighting for survival. With that said, I’m having a hard time picking a side here and even having a hard time with determining a draw as well. However, I do think both sides will play this game very tight and the last three matches have seen a combined four goals. I think a low-scoring affair is on the cards here, so I’ll side with the under 2.5 goals.
Chris’s Pick Under 2.5 Goals -125
