Southampton faces Brighton on Thursday, July 16th at St. Mary's Stadium for an English Premier League match.
Southampton has had to face Manchester City, Everton, and Manchester United in its last three matches. Not many would have believed that Southampton would earn two draws and a win in that span, but indeed Southampton did. Southampton defeated Manchester City at home 1-0, drew against Everton 1-1, and pulled out an incredible draw against Manchester United 2-2 at Manchester United. Southampton is not really playing for much as of now (at least from a team's standpoint), but nonetheless, Southampton has put together some solid performances against some of the Premier League's best clubs. Southampton will now face a Brighton squad that has not faired as well, but can still compete.
Brighton has lost three of its last four matches outright, as Hove Albion has struggled. Brighton's most recent defeat was to Manchester City by the score of 5-0 at home. It was one of, if not, the worst performances of the season for Brighton, a team that is currently in 15th in the Premier League standings. Brighton has not had the easiest schedule as of late (Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City in three of its last four), and it should not get any easier against this red hot Southampton club. Southampton is certainly looking for three points in this match, and Brighton would love to stop them in order to guarantee that it does not relegate.
The last time Southampton and Brighton met was on August 24th of 2019, in which Southampton was victorious on the road by a final score of 2-0.
I like Southampton in this match, as Southampton has many things are going for them. As stated before, Southampton has been in great form as of late, and heading back to its home field is always a good thing, even without any fans in attendance. Brighton has struggled, and even though they have not completely escaped relegation as of yet, I still do not think Brighton has enough to give Southampton too much trouble in this one. I will take Southampton on the three-way money line, as +125 odds hold a ton of value in my opinion.
