Udinese plays host to Lazio in Serie A soccer action from the Dacia Arena on Wednesday afternoon.
Udinese comes into this match on 35 points in 15th place with a record of 9 wins, 8 draws and 15 losses following a 3-1 loss to Sampdoria in their last match. In the loss to Sampdoria, Kevin Lasagna gave Udinese the lead in the 37th minute but Sampdoria would tie the game at one in the first minute of first half stoppage time. The game would remain tied until the 84th minute when Sampdoria would take a 2-1 lead. Udinese thought they had an equalizer in the87th, but VAR would overturn the goal after a handball was discovered in the leadup to the goal. Sampdoria would lock up the win and send Udinese back empty-handed with an insurance goal in the 4th minute of second-half stoppage time. Lasagna leads Udinese in scoring with 10 goals while Rodrigo De Paul and Stefano Okaka each have 6 goals with De Paul adding 5 assists. Seko Fofana also leads Udinese in assists with 7 assists this season. Juan Agustin is Udinese’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.31 goals per 90 minutes with 11 clean sheets in 32 league appearances this season.
Lazio comes into this one in 3rd place on 68 points with a record of 21 wins, 5 draws and 6 losses after a 2-1 loss to Sassuolo last time out. In the loss to Sassuolo, Lazio dodged a bullet in the 9th minute when VAR disallowed Sassuolo’s opening goal due to a confirmed offside in the buildup to the goal. Luis Alberto gave Lazio the lead in the 33rd minute and the lead held through the half but Sassuolo would tie the game at one in the 52nd minute. The game looked headed for a score draw until Sassuolo took a late lead in the first minute of second half stoppage time, leaving Lazio with little time to find an equalizing goal that never came. Ciro Immobile leads Lazio as well as all of Serie A with 29 goals with 8 assists while the aforementioned Luis Alberto has a team-high 14 assists.
I’m not sure what to make of this game as a Lazio win wouldn’t surprise me, but given their current form, they’re a hard team to back. Udinese’s played well lately as well, but they haven’t had any luck at home since the restart, dropping eight of nine possible points. With all of that said, Lazio’s won the last seven meetings with all of the meetings seeing three goals or less. Lazio’s also won 10 of the last 11 head-to-head with a draw thrown in there as well. I think Lazio bounces back here so I’ll side with Lazio on the ML for the slight plus money.
