Sassuolo play host to Juventus in Serie A soccer action from the Mapei Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Sassuolo comes into this match in 8th place on 46 points with a record of 13 wins, 7 draws and 12 losses following a 4th straight win in the form of a 2-1 win over Lazio last time out. In the victory over Lazio, Sassuolo were denied the opening goal just nine minutes in after it was determined that Giacomo Raspadori was offside in the buildup to the goal. Lazio would take a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute but Raspadori would make amends in the 52nd and get Sassuolo on the board and on level terms. The game looked headed for a draw before Francesco Caputo scored to give Sassuolo a late 2-1 lead in stoppage time and to steal the points for Sassuolo. Caputo’s goal gives him a team-high 16 goals with 6 assists this season while Domenico Berardi has 12 goals and 6 assists and Jeremie Boga has 11 goals this season. Andrea Consigli leads Sassuolo in goal, conceding 1.65 goals per 90 minutes with 4 clean sheets in 26 league appearances this season.
Juventus on the other hand, come into this game leading Serie A in 1st place on 76 points with a record of 24 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses following a 2-2 draw with Atalanta last time out. In the tie with Atalanta, Juventus fell behind in the 16th minute and that lead would hold until Cristiano Ronaldo tied the game at one from the penalty spot ten minutes into the second half. Atalanta would restore their lead in the 80th minute, but Ronaldo would score again from the penalty spot in the 90th minute, salvaging a point for Juventus in the title race. Ronaldo’s brace gives him a team-high 28 goals this season while Paulo Dybala has 11 goals. Rodrigo BEntancur leads Juventus with 6 assists this season.
I’m finding it really hard to not take a punt on Sassuolo given how well the black and green have played lately. However, while it’s only a two-game skid, you have to think that Juventus will snap out of it at some point in an effort to put the league title away and be able to relax a little bit. I think Juventus bounces back and wins this game, but I don’t think Sassuolo goes down without a fight so I’ll have Juve to win with both teams to score here.
