Lecce and Fiorentina duke it out in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Via del Mare on Wednesday afternoon.
Lecce come into this match in 18th place on 29 points with a record of 7 wins, 8 draws and 17 losses after a scoreless draw with Cagliari last time out. In the tie with Cagliari, Lecce saw the bulk of the scoring chances in the first half with five shots on goal to Cagliari’s one despite having just 44% possession. The possession stayed the same in the second half but both sides would have five more shots on goal, but neither side would end up finding the back of the net, leaving the points to be shared between the two sides at full time. Marco Mancosu leads Lecce in scoring with 11 goals while Gianluca Lapaduia has 7 goals and Filiippo Falco, Jacopo Petriccione and Riccardo Saponara each have 4 assists this season. Gabriel Vasconelos is Lecce’s top goalkeeper, conceding 2.2 goals per 90 minutes with two clean sheets in 28 league appearances this season.
Fiorentina on the other end, sit in 13th on back-to-back draws after a 1-1 tie with Verona last time out. The draw left Fiorentina on 36 points with a record of 8 wins, 12 draws and 12 losses. In the tie with Fiorentina, Verona took the lead in the 18th minute and would carry that lead into the half and for the majority of the second half almost until full time until Patrick Cutrone would find an equalizing goal in the sixth minute of second half stoppage time, forcing the two teams to share the points with the score draw. Federico Chiesa, Dusan Vlahovic and Erick Pulgar each have a team-high 6 goals while Pulgar and Chiesa each have a team-high 4 assists as does Dalbert. Bartlomiej Dragowski is Fiorentina’s #1 goaltender, conceding 1.26 goals per 90 minutes with 8 clean sheets in 31 league appearances this season.
I never thought I would say this considering how many goals Lecce has given up over their last few games, but I am actually expecting a low scoring battle here. The teams have changed over the years, but the last three and four of the last five meetings have ended with a final score of 1-0, including the reverse fixture in October and I just think with the way Fiorentina plays a ton of low scoring games and with how Lecce can struggle to get on the board themselves, I like the under 3 goals a lot here.
