Atletico Madrid play host to Real Betis in La Liga soccer action from the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday afternoon.
Atletico Madrid come into this game In 3rd place, tied with Sevilla on 63 points with a record of 16 wins, 15 draws and 4 losses following a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo last time out. In the draw with Vigo, Atletico took the lead thanks to Alvaro Morata’s goal just 52 seconds into the game. Morata’s goal would hold up until the half, but Vigo would tie the game at one just four minutes into the second half. Atleti had 58% possession in the second half with just one shot on target, but in the end, neither side would find a go-ahead goal and the points would be shared between the two sides at full time. Morata leads Atletico in scoring with 12 goals while Angel Correa has 5 goals and a team-high 6 assists this season. Jan Oblak is Atletico Madrid’s top goalkeeper, conceding 0.66 goals per 90 minutes with 15 clean sheets in 35 league appearances this season.
Real Betis on the other hand, come into this one on 41 points in 13th place with a record of 10 wins, 11 draws and 14 losses following a 3-0 win over Osasuna in their last match. In the win over Osasuna, Guido Rodriguez put Betis in front in the 4th minute and Alfonso Pedraza would double Betis’ lead in the 25th. Betis would hold 62% possession in the second half, outshooting Osasuna 8-7 in attempts at goal with a 4-2 edge in shots on target. All of this kept Osasuna reeling and unable to get on the board before Betis found a 3rd goal late in second half stoppage time off of the boot of Carles Alena. Loren Moron leads Betis in scoring with 9 goals while Sergio Canales has 6 goals to match a team-high 6 assists this season. Joel Robles is Betis’ top goalkeeper, conceding 1.4 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 33 league appearances this season.
Atletico Madrid may lead the league as one of three teams with 15 draws this season, but they’re on a strong run at home, where Atleti is unbeaten un their last nine and are a perfect 3-0-0 at home since the restart of La Liga. Betis on the other hand, hasn’t won on the road since November and outside of the draw against Celta Vigo has weekend, had lost the previous three road games by a combined score of 7-2. I see this being another low scoring victory for Atletico but I can also see it being a shutout win, somewhere along the lines of 1-0 or 2-0. I’ll side with Atletico to win & under 2.5 goals as well as Atletico to win to nil as my main bets for this match.
