Sheffield United (DWLLL) and Wolverhampton (LWWWD) will meet on Wednesday, July 8th for an English Premier League soccer match. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM EST start time and it will be played at Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United is coming off a 1-1 draw to Burnley in its last match. Burnley's James Tarkowski scored in the 43rd minute to give Burnley the 1-0 lead at halftime. Sheffield United had ten shots, with three of them making it on target. Finally, in the 80th minute, John Egan scored for Sheffield United to equalize the game. That would be all the scoring in that match, as both Burnley and Sheffield United earned a point each for their efforts. Sheffield United is currently in 8th place in the English Premier League standings.
Wolverhampton experienced a rare loss to Arsenal, 2-0, on the 4th of July. This loss broke Wolverhampton's long-lasting unbeaten streak, as Wolves had not lost a game since January 23rd to Liverpool. Wolverhampton is in 6th place in the English Premier League standings, three points behind Manchester United for fifth place. Arsenal is now only three points behind Wolverhampton, as they were able to pick up three points in the victory on July 4th. Wolverhampton still has some hopes for a top-five or top-four finish, but games like this against Sheffield United will have to be must-wins, even on the road.
The last time Sheffield United and Wolverhampton met was on December 1st of 2019. That match resulted in a 1-1 draw in front of the Wolverhampton supporters.
This is a big match for Wolverhampton, as they cannot experience back-to-back losses if they want to catch Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League table. Wolves did not look strong against Arsenal, so they will need a much better performance in this match. Sheffield United has not been in its best form as of late, but they can certainly surprise, just as they did against Tottenham Hotspur on July 2nd. I am going to have to take Wolverhampton in this match, as I think they are the stronger of the two teams on both sides of the ball.
