Bologna plays host to Sassuolo in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Renato Dell’Ara on Wednesday afternoon.
Bologna comes into this match in 9th place on 41 points after picking up a 2-1 win over Inter Milan last time out to improve their record to 11 wins, 8 draws and 11 losses this season. In the win over Inter, Bologna fell behind in the 22nd minute and things got worse after the break when Roberto Soriano was shown a straight red card in the 57th minute. Bologna would dodge a bullet in the 62nd when Inter missed from the penalty spot and Musa Jawara got Bologna on the board in the 74th minute. Bologna would get a gift of their own as Inter were reduced to ten men and Musa Barrow would complete the comeback for Bologna in the 80th minute to give the visitors a 2-1 lead, a lead that they’d ride to the finish line to pull off the upset over Inter Milan. Riccardo Orsolini leads Bologna in scoring with 8 goals along with a team-high 4 assists while Musa Barrow and Rodrigo Palacio each have a team-high 6 goals this season. Lukasz Skorupski is Bologna’s #1 goalkeeper, conceding 1.45 goals per 90 minutes with 2 clean sheets in 29 league appearances this season.
Sassuolo on the other hand, find themselves one point behind and one spot behind in 10th place on 40 points with a record of 11 wins, 7 draws and 12 losses following back-to-back wins after a 4-2 win over Lecce last time out. In the win over Lecce, Francesco Caputo gave Sassuolo the lead after just five minutes of play. Lecce would tie the game at one in the 27th and the tie would hold up until the hour mark of the match. Domenico Berardi gave Sassuolo the lead from the penalty spot in the 63rd but Lecce would tie the game again with a spot kick of their own four minutes later. Jeremie Boga and Mert Muldur would push Sassuolo 4-2 up with a pair of goals five minutes apart and Sassuolo would not look back the rest of the way, carrying on to victory. Caputo’s goal puts him on a team-high 15 goals this season with 5 assists while Berardi and Boga each have 11 goals with Berardi owning a team-high 6 assists this season. Andrea Consigli leads Sassuolo in goal, conceding 1.75 goals per 90 minutes with 4 clean sheets in 24 league appearances this season.
I’m tempted to back Sassuolo here as Bologna hasn’t had a ton of luck at home, going winless across their last four home matches, while conceding in 13 straight home games and numbers like that aren’t what you want when Sassuolo has been scoring for fun since Serie A restarted. On ther other hand, Bologna did just beat Inter and Sassuolo has been given up goals almost as quickly as they’ve been scoring them. I think Bologna gets up for this game and the two sides cancel each other out so I’m going to side with the draw as my main bet for this match, but I’m also going to put some side action on the correct score of 2-2 and 3-3 for huge plus money as I think we see another goalfest here.
