Levante play host to Real Sociedad in La Liga soccer action from the Estadi Olimpic Camilo Cano on Monday afternoon.
Levante comes into this match in 12th position on 42 points with a record of 12 wins, 6 draws and 15 losses following a scoreless draw with Valladolid last time out. In the draw with Valladolid, the two sides played a pretty even game statistically, with Levante owning 53% possession in the match, but were outshot 15-8 in terms of attempts at goal and 4-3 in regards to shots on target. The deciding moment came late in stoppage time when Valladolid were awarded a penalty, but goalkeeper Altor Fernandez would stick a leg out and keep the game tied at zero, and the full time whistle came shortly thereafter. Roger Marti leads Levante in scoring with 11 goals while Borja Mayoral has 7 goals and Jose Campana has 6 assists this season. Altor Fernandez leads Levante in goal, conceding 1.39 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 33 league appearances this season.
Real Sociedad on the other hand, enter this match in 7th on 50 points with a record of 15 wins, 5 draws and 13 losses after a 2-1 win over Espanyol in their last match. In the victory over Espanyol, Sociedad had their opening goal denied by VAR when Willian Jose was deemed to be in an offside position. Espanyol would make Sociedad pay just five minutes later, and it would hold into the second half but Willian Jose would tie the game for Sociedad in the 56th minute. The game remained tied for most of the second half but Alexander Isak would help Sociedad steal the points with a goal in the 84th minute, giving Sociedad a 2-1 lead that they would ride to the finish line. Jose leads Sociedad in scoring with 10 goals this season while Mikel Oyarzabal has 9 goals and a team-high 9 assists. Isak has 8 goals while Portu has 7 goals and 8 assists.
I’ve gone back and forth on this game, as Sociedad’s the better team in the table, but they’ve struggled since the restart and a win at home against the last-placed team in La Liga doesn’t do all that much for me. On the other hand, Levante’s had the better run of form since the restart, but they’re still heavily inconsistent and are just hard to get a read on. With that said, one thing is for sure when these two meet, and that’s lots of goals. Six of the last eight meetings have seen at least three goals and I could easily see a 2-1 game here as well. Give me the over.
