Parma and Fiorentina square off in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Sunday afternoon.
Parma enter this match in 10th place on 39 points, tied with Cagliari after back-to-back defeats including a 3-2 loss to Verona that dropped Parma to 11 wins, 6 draws and 12 losses this season. In the loss to Verona, Dejan Kulusevski gave Parma the lead after just 14 minutes of play, a lead that would hold until Verona tied the game at one goal apiece in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Verona would forge ahead 2-1 in the 54th minute but Riccardo Gagliolo tied the game at two ten minutes after that. The game looked headed for a draw, but Verona would score in the 81st minute, stealing the win and the points at full time. Andreas Cornelius leads Parma in scoring with 11 goals on the year while Dejan Kulusevski has 7 goals to match his team-high 7 assists this year.
Fiorentina on the other hand, come into this match on 31 points, tied with Udinese and Torino with a record of 7 wins, 10 draws and 12 losses following back-to-back defeats after a 3-1 loss to Sassuolo last time out. In the loss to Sassuolo, Fiorentina fell behind in the 24th minute before Sassuolo doubled their lead just 11 minutes later. In the second half, Fiorentina fell behind 3-0 just after the hour mark. Patrick Cutrone would pull a goal back for Fiorentina in the 90th minute, but it was too little too late as Sassuolo held on for the win. Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa are tied for the team-high with 6 goals apiece while Dalbert and Erick Pulgar each have a team-high 4 assists this season. Bartlomiej Dragowski is Fiorentina’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.31 goals per 90 minutes with 7 clean sheets in 29 league appearances this season.
I’ve had a hard time trying to figure out this match, as Parma’s lost their last three home matches, and with no fans in the stands, it may seem a bit hard to get out of that funk. On the other hand, Fiorentina has dropped eight of nine points since the restart with back-to-back losses and only have one win in their last nine league outings. Instead of trying to pick a side, I’m going to side with the under. In the three meetings since Parma came back up to Serie A last season, we’ve seen a combined four goals and I just don’t think we see that much different from this match.
