Liverpool (LWDLW) and Aston Villa (LDLDL) will meet on Sunday, July 5th for an English Premier League match. The match is scheduled for an 11:30 AM EST start time and it will be played at Anfield.
Liverpool was not the same Liverpool we have seen all season long on Thursday. Liverpool was absolutely embarrassed by Manchester City, as they lost the 1st vs 2nd match by the final score of 4-0. Liverpool was honored by Manchester City and its organization before the match, as Liverpool is now the official champions of the English Premier League this season. That would be the extent of the mercy Manchester City showed Liverpool on Thursday, as four different goal scorers poured it on. The score was 3-0 at the half, as Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Phil Foden all scored goals for Man City. In the second half, Manchester City scored again, but to make matters worse for Liverpool, it was an Own-Goal off of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Liverpool will look to bounce-back against lowly Aston Villa at home.
Aston Villa took on Wolverhampton in its last match on June 27th. Aston Villa was outplayed during the match, not having much to show offensively in either half. Wolverhampton's Leander Dendoncker scored the only goal of the match in the 62nd minute. Aston Villa is in trouble, as the team is currently in 18th place in the English Premier League standings, therefore relegation is a very real possibility. Aston Villa can only hope that the same Liverpool that played Manchester City shows up on Sunday, but that most likely will not be the case.
The last time Liverpool and Aston Villa played against each other was on December 17th of 2019 in the English Carabao Cup. Aston Villa won that match 5-0, but that was because the young Liverpool squad played. The last Premier League match Liverpool and Aston Villa played in were on November 2nd of 2019, in which Liverpool won 2-1.
If the Liverpool team we are so used to seeing shows up on Sunday, Aston Villa does not stand a chance. The question is, who will be in the starting lineup? Will Liverpool put out its B or C team just to avoid injury? Time will tell, but as of now, Liverpool's top squad is set to hit the field, therefore I will take Liverpool -1.5. Be sure to stay updated with this match in case Liverpool makes any changes to its lineup.
