Sassuolo and Lecce duke it out in Serie A soccer action from the Mapei Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Sassuolo comes into this match in 12th place with 37 points and a record of 10 wins, 7 draws and 12 losses after ther first win since the restart with a 3-1 win over Fiorentina in their last match. In the win over Fiorentina, Gregoire Defrei gave Sassuolo the lead in the 24th and doubled the Green and Black’s lead in the 35th with his second goal of the game to complete the brace. The lead held until Sassuolo pushed it to 3-0 just after the hour mark off of the boot of Mert Muldur. Fiorentina pulled a goal back in the 90th minute, but that’s as close as the Violas got as Sassuolo held on for the win and the points. Francesco Caputo lead Sassuolo in scoring with 14 goals along with 5 assists while Domenico Berardi and Jeremie Boga each have 10 goals with Berardi adding 5 assists of his own. Filip Djuricic also has 5 assists for Sassuolo on the year. Andrea Consigli leads Sassuolo in goal, conceding 1.74 goals per 90 minutes with 4 clean sheets in 23 league appearances this season.
Lecce on the other side of the coin, continue to sit in the relegation zone in 18th place on 25 points, one point from safety with a record of 6 wins, 7 draws and 16 losses following a 5th straight loss in the league after a 2-1 loss to Sampdoria in their last game. In the defeat against Sampdoria, Lecce fell behind in the 40th minute from the penalty spot, but would tie the game with a penalty of their own five minutes after the half. The tie would hold until Sampdoria scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 75th minute, again from the penalty spot as Lecce just didn’t have an answer over the last 15+ minutes of the match. Marco Mancosu leads Lecce in scoring with 10 goals on the year while Gianluca Lapaduia has 7 goals on the year. Jacopo Petriccione also has a team-high 4 assists for Lecce this season. Gabriel Vasconelos is Lecce’s top goalkeeper, conceding 2.26 goals per 90 minutes with one clean sheet in 25 league matches this season.
Part of me would like to think that Lecce can give Sassuolo a fight here considering that Lecce is fighting for survival themselves at the moment, but the problem is that Lecce’s lost their last five matches within the league and the game against Sampdoria was the first of the five to finish within one goal and didn’t see Lecce concede four. On the other hand, Sassuolo has the better record, but each of their last four games since the restart have seen at least four goals. I think Sassuolo wins, but I do think we see another high scoring game, so I’ll package Sassuolo to win with the over 2.5 goals for plus money here.
