Lazio and AC Milan duke it out in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday afternoon.
Lazio enter this match in second place, four points behind league-leading Juventus on 68 points with a record of 21 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses following a 2-1 win over Torino in their last game. In the win against Torino, Lazio fell behind when Torino converted a penalty in the 5th minute. Torino’s goal would hold up until Ciro Immobile tied the game at one in the 48th minute, making amends for the first goal as it was his mishandling that led to the penalty and the coinciding yellow card, which means he will miss this match against AC Milan. Marco Parolo gave Lazio a 2-1 in the 72nd minute, and Torino just wouldn’t have a response the rest of the way as Lazio cruised to the finish line. Immobile’s goal pushed his team-high and Serie A leading goal number to 29 this season with 8 assists while Felipe Calcedo is second with 8 goals and Luis Alberto has a team-high 14 assists this season.
AC Milan on the other hand come into this one in 7th place on 43 points with a record of 12 wins, 7 draws and 10 losses after a frustrating 2-2 draw with Spal last time out. In the tie with Spal, AC Milan found themselves behind in the 13th minute followed by Spal making it 2-0 on the half hour mark. Milan though they had pulled a goal back in the 37th, but VAR would overturn the decision due to offside in the buildup to the goal. Milan were handed an advantage in the 43rd when Spal went down to ten men and Rafael Leao would pull a goal back in the 79th. Milan had their backs against the wall late, but an own goal from Spal would suck out a point for AC Milan although Milan will be upset with themselves that they didn’t leave with a full three points in an otherwise winnable matchup. Ante Rebic leads AC Milan with 8 goals this season while Theo Hernandez has 5 goals and Hakan Calhanoglu has a team-high 3 assists this season. Gianluigi Donnarumma is AC Milan’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.17 goals per 90 minutes with 10 clean sheets in 27 league appearances this season.
On the surface, Lazio should be favored as they’re having the better season of the two. However, both Ciro Immobile, Serie A and Lazi’s leading scorer with 29 goals, and Felipe Calcedo, Lazio’s second-leading scorer, will both miss this match due to yellow card accumulation, and I don’t think the significance of that can be understated. AC Milan is having a down year by their own standards, but I think Milan gets up for this one and deal a blow to Lazio’s title hopes with a draw. I’ll side with the draw as my main bet for this match and I’ll also put some side action on the draw with both teams to score as well as the correct score predictions of 1-1 and 2-2 for hefty plus odds.
