Sheffield United (LLLDW) and Tottenham Hotspur (WDLDL) will meet on Thursday, July 2nd for an English Premier League match. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM EST start time and it will be played at Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United is coming off a real heartbreaker in English FA Cup action. Sheffield United had made the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, and they had to take on Arsenal on June 28th. Arsenal had controlled the first half of play, as the team was able to score on a penalty shot from Nicolas Pepe and take a 1-0 Arsenal lead into the half. In the second half, Sheffield United came out to play. The team was controlling the possession, earning many scoring opportunities, and really tiring the Arsenal defense. Sheffield looked as if they were bound to score, but they just could not get a ball to bounce its way. Finally, in the 87th minute, David McGoldrick scored the equalizer goal for Sheffield United. With that goal, it looked as if we were headed to extra time, but unfortunately for Sheffield United, Arsenal had other plans. Sheffield United had remained in control of the ball even after its goal, but Arsenal was able to force a turnover in the 90+1 minute and go on the counter-attack. That counter-attack proved to be the first goal of the FA Cup for Dani Ceballos for Arsenal, as Arsenal stunned Sheffield United and won the match 2-1.
Tottenham had not been in good form in its past few matches, but luckily for Hotspur, the team was able to rebound against West Ham United. Tottenham took down the struggling West Ham United by the final score of 2-0, as Hotspur received goals from Harry Kane and an OG (own goal) from Tomas Soucek. Tottenham is now in seventh place in the English Premier League standings, as it is four points behind Manchester United in sixth and tied in points with Burnley in eighth.
The last time Sheffield United and Tottenham met was on November 9th of 2019. That match resulted in a 1-1 draw in front of the Tottenham home supporters. Tottenham has won two of the last five matches played against Sheffield, while Sheffield United as one victory in that span.
The kicker for me in this match is the time off for these clubs. Sheffield will only have three full days of rest, while Tottenham will have over a week to regroup. I am going to take the well-rested Tottenham Hotspur to win this match on the road.
