Real Madrid play host to Getafe in La Liga soccer action from the Alfredo di Stafano Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Real Madrid enter this match leading the pack in the La Liga table, on 71 points in 1st with a record of 21 wins, 8 draws and 3 losses after a 1-0 win over Espanyol in their last match. In the win over Espanyol, Casemiro opened the scoring for Madrid just before halftime, and while Espanyol had just 35% possession in the second half, they had their chances to tie the game with 3 shots on goal. However, Real would slam the door shut the rest of the way, leaning on the lone goal of the match to decide the winner and Madrid would pick up the W. Karim Benzema leads Real Madrid with 17 goals and 7 assists this season while Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde and Luka Modric all have 5 assists. Thibault Courtois leads Real Madrid in goal, conceding 0.59 goals per 90 minutes with 15 clean sheets in 29 league appearances this season.
Getafe will look to keep their four game unbeaten run going with a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad their last time out, Getafe’s first win since La Liga restarted. The win put Getafe in 5th on 52 points with a record of 14 wins, 10 draws and 8 losses. In the win over Real Sociedad, Jaime Mata gave Getafe the lead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute and the goal would hold into the half and for an early part of the second half before Sociedad tied the game at one in the 59th minute. The game looked destined for the draw before Mata gave Getafe the lead in the 83rd minute, completing his brace in the process. Sociedad would not have an answer the rest of the way as Getafe held on for a much-needed win. Mata’s brace gives him a team-high 11 goals this year while Angel Rodriguez has 10 goals and Marc Cucurella has a team-high 5 assists this year. David Soria is Getafe’s top goalkeeper, conceding 13 clean sheets in 32 league appearances this season.
Normally I’d pounce on odds like these with Getafe in a top-5 matchup. However, Getafe are winless in their last 12 games against Real Madrid, and Getafe haven’t scored in any of their last three matches with Madrid. Getafe’s also 0-7 in all of their games this year against teams that are currently in the top 6 of the La Liga table, including a 3-0 loss in the reverse fixture against Real Madrid. Real has been perfect since the restart and a win here would be massive considering Barcelona’s draw with Atletico, whereby a win could put Real four points clear with five matches to go. This is a heavy price tag but I think we can go with Real Madrid to win to nil as the main bet for this match to get the wager into plus odds.
