Atalanta and Napoli duke it out in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on Thursday afternoon.
Atalanta enters this match in 4th place on 57 points with a record of 17 wins, 6 draws and 5 losses following back-to-back 3-2 wins with the last one coming against Udinese. Duvan Zapata opened the scoring just 9 minutes into the game but Udinese would find an equalizer just after the half hour mark. The tie would hold up well into the second half until Luis Muriel pushed Atalanta 3-1 ahead with a brace, scoring in the 71st and 79th minutes. Udinese pulled a goal back late but it wasn’t enough as Atalanta held on for the win. Josip Ilicic and Luis Muriel are tied for the team lead in scoring with 15 goals apiece while Duvan Zapata has 14 goals and Alejandro Gomez has a team-high 14 assists this season. Pierluigi Gollini leads Atalanta in goal, conceding 1.28 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 25 league appearances this season.
Napoli on the other hand, come into the game in 6th place on 45 points with a record of 13 wins, 6 draws and 9 losses after a 3-1 win over Spal last time out. In the win over Spal, Dries Mertens opened the scoring for Napoli in the 4th minute. Spal would tie the game at one just before the half hour mark. Napoli would respond and restore the lead in the 36th minute and almost went 3-1 up just before halftime but VAR would overturn the goal decision due to offsides in the leadup to the goal. Napoli would get their insurance goal late in the second half when Amin Younes made it 3-1 Napoli in the 78th minute, a lead that Napoli would ride to the finish line. Arkadiusz Milik leads Napoli in scoring with 10 goals while Jose Callejon has a team-high 6 assists for Napoli and Lorenzo Insigne has 5 goals and 5 assists for Napoli on the year.
This is a tough game two call as you have two teams that picked up right where they left off from before the break. However, Atalanta’s just on a strong run of form right now and are the highest scoring team in Serie A by a fair margin. This one could come down to a goal late, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw five or six goals here. I’m going to side with Atalanta ML as my main bet for the match, and since each of Atalanta’s three games since the Serie A restart have seen five goals scored, I’m going to package the Atalanta win with the over 4.5 goals for sizeable plus money.
