Fiorentina and Sassuolo meet in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Antonio Franchi on Wednesday afternoon.
Fiorentina come into this match in 13th on 34 points with a record of 7 wins, 10 draws and 12 losses after a 2-1 loss to Lazio last time out. In the defeat to Lazio, Franck Ribery gave Fiorentina the lead after 25 minutes of play, and Fiorentina would carry the lead until the 67th minute when Lazio would tie the game from the penalty spot. We looked headed for a tie before Lazio would sneak in a second goal seven minutes from time, giving Lazio a 2-1 lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way. Dusan Vlahovic leads Fiorentina in scoring with 6 goals, but will miss this match after picking up a red card late in the loss to Lazio. Federico Chiesa also has 6 goals while Erick Pulgar and Dalbert each have a team-high 4 assists for Fiorentina this year. Bartlomiej Dragowski is Fiorentina’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.25 goals per 90 minutes with 7 clean sheets in 28 league appearances this year.
Sassuolo on the other hand, enter this match in 12th place on 34 points with a record of 9 wins, 7 draws and 12 losses after back-to-back 3-3 draws following a draw against Verona last time out. In the tie against Verona, the first half saw no scoring and only one booking per side, but things opened up in the second half. Verona took the lead in the 51st minute, but Jeremie Boga would tie the game at one just two minutes later. Verona would respond just four minutes after that and would go 3-1 ahead in the 68th minute. Boga would get his second goal of the game in the 77th to make it 3-2 and Rogerio would suck out a point for Sassuolo in the sixth minute of stoppage time, earning the draw with a 3rd goal for Sassuolo. Francesco Caputo leads Sassuolo in scoring with 14 goals along with 6 assists while Domenico Berardi and the aforementioned Boga each have 10 goals with Berardi adding 5 assists of his own. Andrea Consigli leads Sassuolo as the team’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.74 goals per 90 minutes with 4 clean sheets in 23 league appearances this season.
This is a tough one to call as you have two teams next to each other in the table and probably not pulling away from each other anytime soon. However, while Fiorentina is at home, there’s no home field advantage and no fans in the stands to give Fiorentina the extra push. Not to mention, Fiorentina weren’t winning games with fans in the stands anyways, but they were getting points via the draw. Sassuolo has had back-to-back 3-3 draws and while I don’t think this one is as high scoring as those games, I do think this game ends all square so I’ll side with the draw as my bet for this match.
