AFC Bournemouth (LLLDL) and Newcastle United (LDWWW) will meet on July 1st for an English Premier League (EPL) match. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM EST start time and it will be played at Vitality Stadium.
AFC Bournemouth is coming off a 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton in its last match on June 24th. AFC Bournemouth is currently in 18th place in the English Premier League standings, so any loss to any team hurts its chances of avoiding relegation. In the match against Wolves, neither team was able to score in the first half of play. It was a slow half for both teams, as there were not many scoring opportunities for either club. Despite earning four corner kicks, AFC Bournemouth was not able to earn a single shot on target in the match. Wolverhampton was able to break the scoreless tie in the 60th minute, thanks to Raul Jimenez's goal. The remaining minutes of the match were anticlimatic for AFC Bournemouth, with little to none scoring chances. AFC Bournemouth will look to earn at least one point in this match against Newcastle, as it is getting late in the season and the team is not safe by any means.
Newcastle United took on Manchester City in the English FA Cup quarterfinals in its last match. It was a solid run for Newcastle United, but when they drew Manchester City as its next opponent, it was basically over before it started. Manchester City totally dominated the entire match, owning a 76% possession advantage (the number was more than 80% after the first half). Manchester City scored one goal in the first half off of a Kevin De Bruyne penalty kick in the 37th minute. In the 68th minute, after an empty-net goal opportunity was missed by Newcastle United, Raheem Sterling sealed the deal for Manchester City with a goal to make it 2-0. Manchester City remained in control for the rest of the match, and they punched their ticket to the semifinals.
The last time Newcastle and AFC Bournemouth met was on November 9th of 2019. That match was a 2-1 win for Newcastle United in front of its home supporters.
In this match, you have one team that is fighting for its life in the Premier League, and another team that is pretty much safe. Newcastle has to travel to AFC Bournemouth and only have two days of rest in between its last match, and that spells disaster in my eyes. Do I love Bournemouth? Of course not, but I think this is a spot where they can find a win and a huge three points against a tired team. It should be really close, but I will side with AFC Bournemouth.
