Mallorca host Celta Vigo in La Liga soccer action from the Visit Mallorca Estadi on Tuesday afternoon.
Mallorca come into this match in the relegation zone on 26 points with a record of 7 wins, 5 draws and 20 losses following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Athletic Bilbao in their last match. In the loss to Bilbao, Mallorca fell behind in the 16th minute when Bilbao converted from the penalty spot and went 2-0 down just eight minutes after that. Mallorca would pull a goal back in the second half when Ante Budimir would score from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, but despite having 56% possession in the second half, that was as close as Mallorca would get as Bilbao secured the result with an insurance goal in the 90th minute of play. Budimir’s goal gave him a team-high 10th goal of the season while Aleix Febas and Salva Sevilla each have a team-high 3 assists this season.
Celta Vigo on the other hand, enter this match two spots above in 16th on 34 points with a record of 7 wins, 13 draws and 12 losses after a 2-2 draw with Barcelona last time out. In the tie with Barca, Celta Vigo fell behind in the 20th minute but would make up the goal five minutes after halftime off of the boot of Fedor Smolov. Barcelona would pull ahead once again in the 67th minute, and Vigo were almost out of luck when Iago Aspas tied the game at two in the 88th minute, salvaging a point for the hosts from one of the league’s best when full time came around. Aspas’ goal gave him a team-high 12th goal of the season while Denis Suarez has a team-high 5 assists for Celta Vigo this season. Ruben Blanco is Celta Vigo’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.1 goals per 90 minutes with 10 clean sheets in 30 league appearances this season.
I’ll give Vigo credit for battling and earning a point against Barcelona and I agree with Vigo being favored, even on the road. However, Vigo has also been involved in a ton of low scoring away games this season, and while Celta’s unbeaten in their last five road games in the league, four of those games were draws including three consecutive scoreless draws. Mallorca’s been far from convincing at home this season and while you want to pick up wins, especially for Mallorca in the relegation zone, I think they’d settle for a point here. I think Vigo’s low scoring trends on the road continue here in a draw, so I’ll back the draw as my main bet as well as some side action on the correct score of 0-0 for sizeable plus odds.
