Genoa play host to Juventus in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Tuesday afternoon.
Genoa come into this match in 17th, parked a point above the relegation zone with 26 points and a record of 6 wins, 8 draws and 14 losses following a 2-2 tie with Brescia last time out. In the draw with Brescia, Genoa fell behind early, as Brescia scored in the 10th and 13th minutes to storm out to a 2-0 lead. Iago Falque would pull one back for Genoa in the 38th and Andrea Pinamonti would equalize from the penalty spot for Genoa in the 69th minute of play. Genoa had the bulk of the scoring chances in the second half, but wouldn’t be able to capitalize on them as Brescia stood tall and hung on to share the points with Genoa at full time. Domenico Criscito and Goran Pandev are tied for the team-high with 7 goals apiece while Paolo Ghiglione has a team-high 5 assists for Genoa this season. Mattia Perin is Genoa’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.64 goals per 90 minutes with 3 clean sheets in 11 league appearances this season.
Juventus on the other hand, come into this match leading Serie A with 69 points after extending their league winning streak to five games with a 4-0 win over Lecce last time out. Juventus were given an advantage in the 32nd when Lecce were knocked down to ten men with a straight red card. The game would stay tied at zero at the half, but Juve would break things open in the second half when Paulo Dybala gave Juventus the lead in the 53rd. Cristiano Ronaldo doubled Juventus’ lead in the 62nd from the penalty spot. Gonzalo Higuain and Matthijs de Ligt pushed the lead to 4-0 with goals in the 83rd and 85th as Juventus cruised to the win. Ronaldo leads Juventus in scoring with 23 goals with 4 assists while Dybala and Higuain each have 4 assists with Dybala having 9 goals to Higuain’s 6. Douglas Costa also has 4 assists but Rodrigo Bentancur has a team-high 6 assists on the year.
The plus money is tempting considering that Genoa’s won three of the last five head-to-head with Juve in Genoa. However, Genoa struggled big time with Brescia, even though they came back from two goals down, and struggling with Brescia is not what you want when Juventus is on tap. I just think Juventus is the far better team here, and I think the defense for Juve rules the day. Since four of Juve’s last five wins have been shutout wins, I’ll back Juventus with both teams to score – no to get the wager into plus money.
