Sassuolo take on Verona in Serie A soccer action from the Mapei Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Sassuolo come into this match in 12th place on 33 points with a record of 9 wins, 6 draws and 12 losses after a 3-3 tie with Inter Milan in their last match. In the tie with Inter, Francesco Caputo gave Sassuolo the lead just four minutes into the match and that lead would hold until late in the first half until Inter tied the game and took a 2-1 lead in the span of four minutes in the 41st and 45th minutes. The 2-1 score would hold up until late in the second half when Domenico Berardi tied the game at two from the penalty spot in the 81st. Inter took the lead in the 86th, but Sassuolo tied the game at 3-3 three minutes later after a tap-in goal from Giangiacomo Magnani. Neither side would find a breakthrough goal late as the points were shared between the two sides at full time. Caputo leads Sassuolo in scoring with 14 goals this season along with 4 assists while Domenico Berardi has 10 goals and a team-high 5 assists this year. Andrea Consigli is Sassuolo’s #1 goalkeeper, conceding 1.68 goals per 90 minutes with 4 clean sheets in 22 league appearances this season.
Verona on the other side, enter this match in 9th place with a record of 10 wins, 8 draws and 9 losses on 38 points following a 2-0 loss to Napoli in their last match. In the defeat against Napoli, Verona fell behind in the 38th minute, but would find an equalizer just after the hour mark. Or so it seemed until VAR overturned the goal after it was decided that a handball occurred in the buildup to the goal. Verona would search for the tying goal but it wouldn’t come as Napoli scored a second goal to lock up the win and send Verona back empty-handed. Samuel Di Carmine leads Verona in scoring with 5 goals on the year while Giampaolo Pazzini has 4 goals while Darko Lazovic has a team-high 5 assists. Marco Silvestri leads Verona in goal, conceding 0.96 goals per 90 minutes with 9 clean sheets in 27 league appearances this season.
I’ve gone back and forth on this game as Verona’s had the better yeat up to this point, but Sassuolo has been better at home. The issue is that home field goes away now that there are no fans in the stands for these matches. Even so, I still think Sassuolo gets the job done here as they’ve had a solid track record against Verona, winning three of the last four head-to-head. I’m going to side with Sassuolo ML as my main bet for the match, as well as putting side action on Sassuolo to win with under in a couple of goal markets for decent plus money and 1-0 Sassuolo correct score at +800 as that’s been the final score for the last three Sassuolo victories in this fixture.
