Parma play host to Inter Milan in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Sunday afternoon.
Parma come into this one in 7th place tied with AC Milan on 39 points with a record of 11 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses after a 4-1 win over Genoa in their last match. In the win over Genoa, Parma took the lead thanks to Andreas Cornelius in the 18th minute. Genoa had a chance to tie the game in the 29th, but would miss from the penalty spot and Cornelius made Genoa pay for it four minutes later with his second goal of the game to make it 2-0. Cornelius completed his hat trick in the 53rd to make it 3-0 Parma before Genoa finally got on the board just before the hour mark, scoring in their second attempt from the penalty spot. Dejan Kulusevski would restore Parma’s three goal lead in the 87th as Parma would walk out with a decisive win and leave Genoa empty-handed. Cornelius’ hat trick brings him to 11 goals this season while Kulusevski has 6 goals and a team-high 7 assists on the year.
Inter Milan on the other hand, come into this match in 3rd place on 58 points with a record of 17 wins, 7 draws and 3 losses after a 3-3 tie with Sassuolo last time out. In the draw with Sassuolo, Inter fell behind just four minutes in and the goal would hold for most of the first half before Romelu Lukaku tied the game at one for Inter from the penalty spot in the 41st. Cristiano Biraghi gave Inter the lead in the first minute of first half stoppage time but Sassuolo would tie the game at two with just under ten minutes of regular time to play with a penalty of their own. Borja Valero would give Inter a 3-2 lead in the 86th, but once again Sassuolo would tie the game, this time at 3-3 in the 89th minute. In the end, the spoils were shared as both teams had to settle for the draw. Lukaku leads Inter Milan in scoring with 19 goals this season while Lautaro Martinez has 12 goals and Antonio Candreva has a team-high 7 assists on the year. Samir Handanovic leads Inter in goal, conceding 0.96 goals per 90 minutes with 7 clean sheets in 24 league appearances this season.
I get Inter being favored as they’ve had the better season, but Parma is far from a slouch and have been pretty competitive at home this season. Instead of trying to pick a side here, I’ll side with the under 2.5 goals. Seven of Parma’s last eight league home matches have finished with two goals or less as two of the last three meetings since Parma rejoined Serie A last season. I could see another 2-0 decision here, so I’ll back the under 2.5 in this one.
