Newcastle United (DWWWD) and Manchester City (LWWLW) will meet on Sunday, June 28th for the quarterfinal match in the English FA Cup. This match is scheduled for a 1:30 PM EST start time and it will be played at St. James' Park.
Newcastle United defeated West Bromwich Albion in the 5th round of the English FA Cup to reach the quarterfinals. Newcastle United was in control of this match early, as the team was able to score two goals in the latter stages of the first half of play. When I say the team was able to score, I really mean Miguel Almiron, as he scored both goals for Newcastle United in the 33rd and 45+1 minutes. After the break, Newcastle United came out hot and was able to score its third goal of the match thanks to Valentino Lazaro (47'). With a 3-0 lead, Newcastle United played a bit too conservative, as they did concede two goals in the 74th and 90+3 minutes. Newcastle United's lead and victory were never going away, however, as they held on for a 3-2 victory without much concern.
Manchester City poured shots on net against Sheffield Wednesday, despite the team only scoring one single goal in the match. It was an incredible performance from Sheffield Wednesday's goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith. He stopped 8 of 9 total shots on target from Manchester City, but unfortunately, his team could not help him in any way. Manchester City owned 80% of the possession in the match, and they held Wednesday to only one single shot that did not even make it on target. Manchester City will certainly look for better results on the scoreboard in this match against Newcastle United.
The last time these two teams played against each other was on November 30th of 2019. That match actually resulted in a 2-2 draw, so it is not a wash that Manchester City will have an easy victory against the Premier League-based Newcastle United. In fact, Newcastle United actually won the match before that against Manchester City, so do not expect Newcastle to lay down and die here.
With all of this being said, I still think Manchester City is going to advance and defeat Newcastle United in this match. With the English Premier League Champion already being crowned, and the hopes of an appearance in the Champions League hanging in the balance of its appeal, I expect Manchester City to take this match very seriously. I certainly love other bets more, but I will take a stab with Manchester City -2.0 at -115 odds.
