Napoli play host to Spal in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday afternoon.
Napoli enter this match in 6th place on 42 points with a record of 12 wins, 6 draws and 9 losses after a 2-0 win over Verona in their first league match since the restart last time out. In the win over Verona, Arkadiusz Milik gave Napoli the lead in the 38th minute and the lead would hold until the hour mark when Verona would find an equalizing goal. However, upon review by VAR, there was a handball in the buildup to the goal, and Verona’s tying goal was wiped away. Verona would continue to search for a tying goal, but Napoli would put the match away in the 90th minute thanks to Hirving Lozano’s header off of a set piece. Milik leads Napoli in scoring with 10 goals this season while Jose Callejon has a team-high 6 assists on the year.
Spal on the other hand, enter this match in the relegation zone, sitting in 19th with 18 points and a record of 5 wins, 3 draws and 19 losses following a 1-0 loss to Cagliari in their last match. The game saw five yellow cards in the first half, but no scoring. The second half was much cleaner with only one yellow produced, and we appeared headed for a scoreless draw before Cagliari headed one home in the third minute of second-half stoppage time, securing the win and stealing the points that go along with it, leaving Spal empty-handed once again. Andrea Petagna leads Spal in scoring with 11 goals on the year while Gabriel Strefezza and Mirko Valdifiori have a pair of assists each this season. Etrit Berisha is Spal’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.58 goals per90 minutes with 3 clean sheets in 26 league appearances this season.
I get Napoli being favored at home, but there’s no real fans in the stands for an advantage for Napoli in that regard, and as bad as Spal have been, Napoli haven’t been overly dominant at home enough to be favored so heavily like this. I’m not saying that means I’m going with Spal, but I can’t lay juice and even the Asian handicap is hard for me to get behind. Instead, I’m going to take a shot at the under 2.5 goals. Spal has some serious scoring issues, scoring one goal or less in each of their last seven matches and three of the last four head-to-head have seen two goals or less between the two sides. Give me the under here.
