Leicester City (DDWWL) and Chelsea (WWWWD) will meet on Sunday, June 28th for the quarterfinal match in the English FA Cup. This match is scheduled for an 11:00 AM EST start time and it will be played at King Power Stadium.
Leicester City defeated Birmingham City in the 5th round of this tournament to make it to the quarterfinals. Leicester City controlled the possession and shot advantages throughout the entire match, however, they were not able to get many shots on target. Leicester had a total of 12 shots, with two of them on target. This resulted in the score remaining scoreless for a large part of the match. Finally, in the 82nd minute, Ricardo Pereira broke the tie with a goal for Leicester City. Birmingham City was obviously playing for extra time and perhaps a penalty shootout, but unfortunately for them, Leicester ended those hopes late. For Leicester, they will need a much stronger performance against Chelsea if they stand a chance.
Chelsea was not given the luxury of playing a non-premier league squad in the previous round of the tournament. In fact, they were given the ultimate test when they drew Liverpool in the 5th round of the FA Cup. Chelsea was able to stun the now "Premier League Champions" in the 5th round match, as they defeated Pool, 2-0. Chelsea's Willian gave his club a big momentum boost when he scored first in the 13th minute. With the score 1-0, Liverpool and Chelsea traded scoring chances and offensive strikes throughout the match. The two teams had a combined 31 total shots and 12 shots on target. In the 64th minute, Ross Barkley gave Chelsea the much-needed insurance goal to make it 2-0 and seal the deal for Chelsea. Chelsea will have to face another tough club in Leicester, but they have already proven their worth in this tournament.
The last time Leicester City and Chelsea played was on February 1st of 2020. That match resulted in a 2-2 draw between the two clubs at King Power Stadium.
I like Chelsea's chances to advance to the semifinals, as they are playing the better football as of late. This match could be even after 90 minutes, so I am going to play it safe and take Chelsea to Qualify for the semis at -135. Watch out for USA superstar Christian Pulisic, as he will be key for Chelsea in this match.
