Lazio host Fiorentina in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday afternoon.
Lazio enter this match sitting in 2nd place on 62 points with a record of 19 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses, 4 points behind league-leading Juventus after a 3-2 loss to Atalanta in their last match. In the loss to Atalanta, Lazio went from tied at zero to 2-0 up in the 11th minute after an Atalanta own goal in the 5th minute and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s goal to make it 2-0 just six minutes later. Atalanta would pull one back in the 38th and tie the game at two in the 66th minute. Atalanta would complete the comeback ten minutes from time and Lazio wouldn’t have an answer the rest of the way as Atalanta held on for the win. Ciro Immobile leads not only Lazio but all of Serie A with 27 goals this year to go along with 7 assists while Felipe Calcedo has 8 goals and Joaquin Correa has 7 goals this season. LuisAlberto also had a team-high 13 assists for Lazio on the year.
Fiorentina on the other hand, enter this one in 13th place with a record of 7 wins, 10 draws and 10 losses after a 3rd consecutive draw following a 1-1 tie with Brescia in their last match, bringing their total to 31 points this year, tied with Torino. In the draw with Brescia, Fiorentina fell behind in the 17th minute but German Pezzella would tie the game at one just before the half hour mark. Fiorentina held a 54% possession edge with a 15-5 lead in goal attempts and an 8-3 edge in terms of shots on goal at full time, but neither side would find a go-ahead goal the rest of the way, settling for a point on both sides at the final whistle. Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa share the team lead for Fiorentina with 6 goals apiece while Erick Pulgar has a team-high 4 assists for Fiorentina this season. Bartlomiej Dragowski is conceding 1.22 goals per 90 minutes with 7 clean sheets in 27 league appearances this season.
I was caught a bit off guard with how Lazio folded against Atalanta over the course of that match, but I can’t be too upset in a match between a pair of teams in the top 4. On the other hand, Fiorentina disappointed in a game against lowly Brescia, and I just want no part of Fiorentina right now. I think Lazio gets back on track with a win here, but this is a steep price so I’m going to side with Fiorentina to pick up the win and since 4 of the last 5 head-to-head have seen 3 goals or less, I’m going to package the Lazio win with under 3.5 goals to get the wager into plus money.
