Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim meet in Bundesliga soccer action from Signal Iduna Park on Saturday morning.
Borussia Dortmund come into this match in 2nd place on 69 points with a record of 21 wins, 6 draws and 6 losses after picking up a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig in their last match. Erling Haaland gave Borussia Dortmund the lead on the half hour mark and the lead would hold for much of the second half despite Leipzig holding 57% possession, but Dortmund would hold strong and Haaland would complete his brace and add a second goal in second half stoppage time, locking up the win and second place in the Bundesliga standings. Jadon Sancho leads Dortmund in scoring with 17 goals as well as a team-high 16 assists this season while Haaland’s brace puts him on 13 goals for the year and Thorgan Hazard has a team-high 13 assists this season. Roman Burki is Dortmund’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.21 goals per 90 minutes with 13 clean sheets in 30 league appearances this season.
Hoffenheim on the other hand, sit in 7th place, tied on 49 points with Wolfsburg with a record of 14 wins, 7 draws and 12 losses after back-to-back wins following a 4-0 win over Union Berlin in their last match. In the win over Union, Ihlas Bebou gave Hoffenheim the lead just 11 minutes into the game, before Andrej Kramaric doubled Hoffenheim’s lead in the 39th minute. Munas Dabbur added a 3rd goal in first half stoppage time for Hoffenheim before Christoph Baumgartner made it 4-0 in the 68th minute. Union Berlin simply wouldn’t have an answer, with just one shot on target in the losing effort as Hoffenheim rode the lead to the full time whistle for the victory. Kramaric leads Hoffenheim in scoring with 8 goals on the year while Baumgartner has 7 goals. Robert Skov and Pavel Kaderabek each have a team-high 6 assists this season. Oliver Baumann is Hoffenheim’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.62 goals per 90 minutes with 6 clean sheets in 29 league appearances this season.
I get Dortmund being favored at home, and with talented guys like Haaland and Jadon Sancho in the lineup, BVB always is worth a look for a win. However, Dortmund are locked into 2nd, they’re not moving up or down, and are guaranteed Champions League for next season. Hoffenheim are guaranteed Europa League in some form, but a win here combined with a Wolfsburg loss to Bayern Munich (which is entirely possible after how Bayern showed up last week) would push Hoffenheim straight into the group stage as opposed to their current spot leaving Hoffenheim having to qualify for Europa in a play in set. I’ll take a shot with the Hoffenheim/Draw double chance at plus money to give themselves a shot at 6th here.
