Augsburg host RB Leipzig in Bundesliga soccer action from the WWK Arena on Saturday morning.
Augsburg come into this match in 15th place on 36 points with a record of 9 wins, 9 draws and 15 losses after a 1-1 draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf in their last match. In the tie with Dusseldorf, Augsburg nearly fell behind in the 7th minute but VAR overturned Fortuna’s opening goal due to a handball in the leadup to the goal. Florian Niederlechner gave Augsburg the lead just three minutes later but Dusseldorfpoi would successfully get on the board nine minutes after that. Augsburg had the bulk of the possession in the second half with 56% possession, but neither side would score the rest of the way, leaving the points to be shared between the two sides. Niederlechner leads Augsburg with 13 goals and a share of the team-high with 6 assists while Philipp Max has 8 goals and 6 assists of his own this season.
RB Leipzig on the other hand enter this one in 3rd place after a 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund last time out left Leipzig on 63 points with a record of 17 wins, 12 draws and 4 losses this season. In the defeat against Dortmund, Leipzig fell behind on the half hour mark and despite having 57% possession in the second half along with 12 shot attempts and 3 shots on goal, the Red Bulls wouldn’t find an equalizer before Dortmund added an insurance marker in the third minute of second half stoppage time. Timo Werner leads RB Leipzig in scoring with 26 goals along with 8 assists while Patrik Schick has 10 goals. Marcel Sabitzer has 9 goals with 7 assists and Christopher Nkunku has a team-high 13 assists this season. Peter Gulacsi is starting in goal for Leipzig, conceding 0.84 goals per 90 minutes with 10 clean sheets in 32 league appearances this season.
These last games of the season can be difficult, especially when you have a situation like we have here with one team with something to play for, and one team playing simply for pride, as the lines can be juiced like crazy. With that said, I do expect Leipzig to win here to lock up 3rd place, but instead of paying a juiced price, I’m going to back a couple of alternative markets. I’m going to take the over 1.5 first half goals as each of Leipzig’s last three away matches have seen the over 1.5 come in, and I’m also going to take a shot with Dani Olmo to score anytime as he’s potted three goals in Leipzig’s last two away matches for decent plus odds as well.
