Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo square off in La Liga soccer action from the Reale Seguros Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Real Sociedad come into this match in 7th place on 47 points with a record of 14 wins, 5 draws and 11 losses following a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in their last match. The first half saw a few bookings but no goalscoring, but Real Madrid would break the deadlock just five minutes into the second half before doubling their lead 20 minutes later. Mikel Merino pulled a goal back with seven minutes to go in regular time, but it wasn’t enough as Madrid held on for the win and the three points. Mikel Oyarzabal and Willian Jose each have a team-high 9 goals wth Oyarzabal adding 6 assists while Alexander Isak and Portu each have 7 goals with Portu adding a team-high 8 assists.
Celta Vigo on the other hand, come into this match on 30 points in 16th place with a record of 6 wins, 12 draws and 12 losses after a 6-0 dismantling of Alaves in their last match. Jelson Murillo opened the scoring in the 14th minute before Iago Aspas doubled Vigo’s lead from the penalty spot just six minutes later. Rafinha would push Vigo’s lead to 4-0 just before the half with a brace coming with goals a minute apart in the 40th and 41st. Nolito made it 5-0 from the spot in the 78th and Santi Mina added a 6th just eight minutes after that. Safe to say that the win and the points belonged to Celta Vigo at full time. Aspas leads Vigo in scoring with 10 goals on the year while Denis Suarez has a team-high 5 assists this season. Ruben Blanco is Celta Vigo’s #1 goaltender, conceding 1.11 goals per 90 minutes with 9 clean sheets in 29 league appearances this season.
I’m tempted by plus money with Vigo after that domineering performance against Alaves, but the problem is that Vigo is brutal on the road, winning just once in 15 away matches to this point with 7 draws and currently sitting on a seven game winless run away from home. Real Sociedad has struggled out of the break from the restart, but I think this is a winnable spot and a spot they can use to get back on track so I’ll side with Real Sociedad on the ML for the win here.
