Manchester United (DWWWD) and Sheffield United (LDWWD) will meet on Wednesday, June 24th for an English Premier League match. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM EST start time and will be played at Old Trafford.
Both Manchester United and Sheffield have now gotten one match in each since the break.
Manchester United took on Tottenham Hotspur on June 19th for its first match back from the break. Manchester United earned the draw in that match, 1-1, and received a point in the English Premier League standings. Manchester United has to happy with the result, considering they were trailing for a large majority of the match. Tottenham's Steven Bergwijn scored the first and only goal of the match for Tottenham in the 27th minute. The score would remain the same until the 81st minute, where Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United were awarded a penalty. Fernandes cashed in on the PK and Manchester United nodded up the score. Manchester United owned 61% possession advantage in the match, as well as a three-shot on target advantage. Manchester United is currently in fifth in the English Premier League table, five points behind Chelsea for fourth.
Sheffield United looked horrific against Newcastle United in its first match since March. It was not a miserable first half for Sheffield United, as the score was tied and scoreless heading into halftime. The foul that basically ended the entire match was the red card given to John Egan in the 50th minute. That sealed the deal for Newcastle, who exploded after they were awarded the extra man for the remainder of the match. Allan Saint-Maximin scored in the 55th minute, Matt Richie in the 69th, and Joelinton in the 78th to give Newcastle a 3-0 route win. Sheffield actually owned the overall possession advantage, which shows how well they played in the first half. It was such a shame for the team to lose all hope due to the card in the 2nd half, but that is how football goes.
The last time Manchester United and Sheffield United played against each other was on November 24th of 2019. That match resulted in a 3-3 draw, as it was an offensive shootout in front of the Sheffield United supporters. Sheffield has not defeated Manchester United in the past four matches dating back to 2006.
Sheffield's manager Chris Wilder has stated that his team "has a point to prove" against Manchester United, so watch out for a hot start by Sheffield. I think both teams score in this match, especially when you look at what happened in November's match between these two. I like the value the over has in this game, so I will take the over 2.5 goals and expect a 2-1 or 3-1 score in favor of Manchester United.
