Valladolid and Getafe square off in La Liga soccer action from the Estadio Jose Zorrilla on Tuesday afternoon.
Valladolid come into this match sitting in 15th place on 33 points with a record of 7 wins, 12 draws and 11 losses after a 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in their last match. In the defeat against Atletico, the two sides played clean through the first 45 minutes, no bookings but no scoring either. Both teams had chances and Atletico had a goal pulled back via offsides, but Valladolid would concede in the 81st minute and despite their best effort in the second half, they wouldn’t be able to find an equalizer the rest of the way, leaving Atletico to pick up all three points in the end. Sergi Guardiola leads Valladolid in scoring with 6 goals while Enes Unal has 5 goals. Jordi Masip is Valladolid’s #1 goalkeeper, conceding one goal per 90 minutes with 9 clean sheets in 29 league matches this season.
Getafe on the other hand, come into this one in 5th, parked on 48 points with a record of 13 wins, 9 draws and 8 losses after back-to-back draws, including a 1-1 tie with Eibar in their last match. In the match vs. Eibar, Oghenekaro Etebo gave Getafe a 1-0 lead at the half hour mark, but Eibar would tie the game at one in the rare sixth minute of first-half stoppage time. The two sides would trade chances in the second half, but Getafe would dodge a bullet in the 86th minute when VAR overturned a go-ahead goal for Eibar due to a player being offsides in the leadup to the goal. In the end, points were shared as Getafe fell four points behind 4th place and a Champions League berth for next year. Angel Rodriguez leads Getafe in scoring with 10 goals while Jaime Mata has 8 goals and Marc Cucurella has a team-high 5 assists. Jason and Damian Suarez each have 4 assists as well for Getafe this season. David Soria is Getafe’s #1 goalkeeper, conceding 0.9 goals per 90 minutes with 13 clean sheets in 30 matches this season.
The draw caught my eye as two of the last three meetings between the two since 2018 have ended all square. However, while Valladolid has eight draws at home this season, they also have just three wins to their name and are one of the lower home sides in all of La Liga. The home field is wiped out with no spectators as it was, and to add on to that with a poor home record doesn’t help matters. Getafe is one of the better sides in Spain’s top flight this year, especially away from home and I think they bounce back and finally pick up a win so I’ll side with Getafe to get the win on the road here.
