Hellas Verona host Napoli in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi on Tuesday afternoon.
Hellas Verona come into this match in 7th place on 38 points with a record of 10 wins, 8 draws and 8 losses after a 2-1 win over Cagliari in their last match. In the victory over Cagliari, Samuel Di Carmine gave Verona the lead after just 14 minutes before completing his brace and doubling Verona’s lead with his second goal in the 26th minute, making the score 2-0 in the process. Fabio Borini dealt Hellas a blow when he was sent off in the 35th minute, reducing the hosts to ten men and Cagliari would make Veron pay, pulling a goal back in the 43rd minute. That was as close as Cagliari would get though, as Verona slammed the door shut in the second half. Di Carmine’s brace gives him the team lead in scoring with 5 goals this season while Darko Lazovic leads Hellas Verona in assists with 5 assists this year. Marco Silvestri leads Verona in goal, conceding 0.96 goals per 90 minutes with 9 clean sheets in 26 league appearances this season.
Napoli on the other hand, come into this match one spot better in 6th place, on 39 points with a record of 11 wins, 6 draws and 9 losses after a 2-1 win over Torino in their last match before Serie A was forced to pause before the Coronavirus outbreak. In the victory over Torino, Konstantinos Manolas gave Napoli the lead after just 19 minutes, and that lead would hold through the. Half and most of the second half before Giovanni Di Lorenzo doubled Napoli’s lead with an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. The goal proved important as Torino pulled one back in the first minute of second half stoppage time, but that’s as close as they’d get as Napoli would hold on for the win. Arkadiusz Milik leads Napoli in scoring with 9 goals this season while Dries Mertens has 6 goals with 4 assists and Lorenzo Insigne has 5 goals with 5 assists. Jose Callejon leads Napoli with 6 assists on the year for Napoli as well.
The heavy plus money is extremely tempting with Verona as Hellas has been tough at home and has been on a roll on their own ground, winning 4 straight with the win over Cagliari and a win over league-leading Juventus thrown in there as well. However, the difference for me is that there are no fans here, and while a win over Cagliari is nice, a win for Verona against a talented side like Napoli is a tough call when there’s no supporters in the stands to get the team over the hump in tough spots. Napoli has a history of dismantling Verona, having won six straight against Hellas by a combined score of 15-1, but a lot of those games came when Verona were a joke in Serie A. I do expect Napoli to win here though, as with no fans, Napoli is the slightly better team side by side, and to get the price on Napoli down I’ll take Napoli to win with both teams to score – no, as well as the correct score of 1-0 or 2-0 as a side bet.
