Genoa plays host to Parma in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Tuesday afternoon.
Genoa come into this match sitting in 17th place tied with Lecce on 25 points with a record of 6 wins, 7 draws and 13 losses following a 2-1 win over AC Milan in their last match before Serie A was halted due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In the win over Milan, Goran Pandev gave Genoa the lead after just seven minutes before Francesco Cassata doubled Genoa’s lead in the 41st. AC Milan pulled a goal back late in the second half, but Genoa would hold on to pick up the win and all three points that go along with it. Pandev and Domenico Criscito each have a team-high 7 goals while Paolo Ghiglione leads Genoa in assists with 5 assists this season. Mattia Perin leads Genoa in goal, conceding 1.33 goals per 90 minutes with 3 clean sheets in 9 league appearances this season.
Parma on the other hand, enter the match in 8th with 36 points and a record of 10 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses after a 1-1 tie with Torino in their last match. In the draw with Torino, Parma fell behind just 15 minutes into the match, but Juraj Kucka tied the game for Parma just after the half hour mark. Torino would receive a penalty early in the second half, but Luigi Sepe guessed correctly and made the save, keeping the tie for Parma in tact. Both sides would have chances in the second half, but ultimately the two sides would settle for a sharing of the spoils at full time, each side taking a point from the match. Andreas Cornelius leads Parma in scoring with 8 goals on the year while Dejan Kulusevski and Gervinho each have 5 goals with Kulusevski owning a team-high 7 assists to Gervinho’s 4. Sepe is Parma’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.23 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 22 league appearances this season.
Part of me would like to give Genoa a look here as they went into the break with points in five of their last six games with wins in three of their last four as well. However, Genoa is still struggling on the year, and Parma, despite not getting the result, already had a game to shake some rust off. It’s also a lot easier to read into head-to-head trends as these two teams have been together in Serie A since 2018, but before that, their last meeting was in 2015 and the squads were completely different since then. But in the three meetings since 2018, Parma have won all three by a combined score of 9-2, including a 5-1 win in the reverse fixture this season. I’ll side with Parma on the ML with the heavy plus money here.
