Valencia play host to Osasuna in La Liga soccer action from the Estadio de Mestalia on Sunday afternoon.
Valencia come into this match in 8th place, parked on 43 points with a record of 11 wins, 10 draws and 8 losses after a 3-0 loss to Real Madrid in their last match. In the defeat against Real Madrid, Valencia caught a bad break when Rodrigo’s goal was disallowed after VAR determined a player in an offside position in the buildup to the goal in the 21st minute. The scoreless draw held into the second half when Real Madrid broke the dealock just after the hour mark. Real added a second goal in the 74th and a 3rd goal in the 86th minute to secure the win and pick up the three points that go along with it. Maxi Gomez leads Valencia in scoring with 9 goals while Daniel Parejo has 8 goals and Rodrigo Moreno has a team-high 7 assists. Daniel Wass also has 6 assists for Valencia on the year.
Osasuna on the other hand, enter this match tied with Levante and Alaves on 35 points with a record of 8 wins, 11 draws and 10 losses following a 5-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in their last match. In the loss to Atletico, Osasuna fell behind after just 27 minutes and that goal would hold up until Atletico Madrid scored a second just over ten minutes into the second half. Osasuna would concede in the 79th and 82nd before giving up a 5th goal in the 88th minute, leaving the game beaten, bruised and empty-handed. Chimy Avila leads Osasuna in scoring with 9 goals while Roberto Torres and Ruben Garcia each have 6 goals with Torres owning a team-high 7 assists this season.
Part of me would like to give Osasuna a look considering they won the first leg between the two earlier this season. However, Valencia has been a tough nut to crack at the Mestalia this season, going unbeaten in 15 matches with 8 wins this season and I just didn’t like what I saw from Osasuna against Atletico. I’ll lay the cheap price with Valencia at home here.
