Watford (LWLDL) and Leicester City will meet on Saturday, June 20th for an English Premier League match. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 AM EST start time and will be played at Vicarage Road stadium.
For the first time since March 7th for Watford and March 9th for Leicester City, these two teams will be back in action.
Watford is most likely the team that did not want to return to play the most. A canceled or shortened season would have benefited them the most, as they currently sit at 17th in the English Premier League standings. 17th is good for one spot away from the relegation zone, but Watford is still tied in points for 18th with AFC Bournemouth, so one more loss could be enough to do them in. Watford was not playing well before the break, losing three of their last five overall and only winning one match in that span. Their one win, however, was against some good company in Liverpool, 3-0.
Leicester City was on a two-game win streak before the break, as they defeated Birmingham City in the English FA Cup 1-0 and Aston Villa in English Premier League action, 4-0. Leicester City is currently third place in the English Premier League table, four points behind Manchester City for second and five points ahead of Chelsea in fourth. This is the perfect 'restart' match for Leicester City to get back in the swing of things, but they cannot underestimate Watford as Liverpool did.
The last time these two teams played against each other was on December 4th of 2019 in front of the Leicester City supporters. Leicester City was victorious in that match, 2-0. It took some time for Leicester to strike, but in the 55th minute, Jaime Vardy cashed in on a PK and gave Leicester the lead. Leicester City's James Maddison added a goal in added time in the second half to seal the deal for LC.
I like Leicester City to come out strong in this match. Both teams have had the same amount of time off virtually, so the pros and cons of a long rest will cancel out. I have to go with the stronger squad, even though Watford will be fighting for their lives.
