Paderborn host Borussia Monchengladbach in Bundesliga soccer action from the Benteler Arena on Saturday morning.
Paderborn come into this match in last place, having their fate already determined as they confirmed relegation with a 1-0 loss to Union Berlin in their last match. The loss kept Paderborn at 20 points with a record of 4 wins, 8 draws and 20 losses this season. In the loss to Union, Ben Zolinski put the ball into his own goal in the 27th minute, putting Paderborn in an early 1-0 hole that unfortunately they wouldn’t be able to get out of the rest of the match, despite owning 58% possession. Paderborn would be outshot 14-10 in terms of goal attempts and 6-2 in regards to shots on target. Dennis Srbeny and Strell Mamba each have 5 goals this season while Kai Proger has a team-high 6 assists for Paderborn on the year. Leopold Zingerle is Paderborn’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.85 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 26 league appearances this season.
Borussia Monchengladbach on the other hand, come into this game in 5th, sitting on 59 points with a record of 18 wins, 5 draws and 9 losses after picking up a 3-0 win over Wolfsburg in their last game. In the win over Wolfsburg, Jonas Hofmann gave Gladbach the lead after just 11 minutes before doubling the lead and completing his brace just 19 minutes later with his second goal of the match. The lead would hold until Lars Stindl added a 3rd goal in the 65th minute to help secure the win for Monchengladbach as Wolfsburg just didn’t have a response the rest of the way. Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea are tied for the team-high in scoring with 10 goals apiece, with Plea logging a team-high 10 assists to Thuram’s 8 helpers on the year. Yann Sommer is Monchengladbach’s top goaltender, conceding 1.03 goals per 90 minutes with 7 clean sheets in 32 league appearances this season.
I think if this was earlier on you could’ve made a slight case for Paderborn given that Thuram and Plea are both expected to miss the game for Gladbach due to injury. However, Monchengladbach need points to make next week’s final game have some weight in the race for a top 4 spot for Champions League, and without Thuram and Plea this is still a winnable spot for Monchengladbach. It’s not a game I’m going out of my way to bet personally, especially with this juiced up line, but I think Monchengladbach to win with both teams to score – no is a decent bet as I could see Gladbach winning this one 1-0 or 2-0 and going from almost -400 to +160 sounds like a good idea to me and my bankroll.
