Getafe host Eibar in La Liga soccer action from the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Saturday afternoon.
Getafe enter this match in 5th place on 47 points tied with Real Sociedad and Villarreal after a scoreless draw with Espanyol in their last match. Getafe caught a break just 16 minutes in when Espanyol were reduced to ten men via a straight red card. However, despite owning 69% possession and a 21-5 edge in terms of shot attempts and 4-3 in terms of shots on goal, Getafe would have to settle for a share of the points as neither side found a breakthrough goal in the allotted 90 minutes and stoppage time. Angel Rodriguez leads Getafe in scoring with 10 goals while Jaime Mata has 8 goals and Marc Cucurella has a team-high 5 assists this season. David Soria is Getafe’s top goalkeeper, conceding 0.9 goals per 90 minutes with 13 clean sheets in 29 league appearances this season.
Eibar on the other hand, enter this match in 16th place on 28 points with a record of 7 wins, 7 draws and 15 losses following a 2-2 tie with Athletic Bilbao in their last match. Bilbao took the lead from the penalty spot in the 8th minute but Kike would tie the game at one for Eibar just 11 minutes later. Eibar had a challenge put in front of them as Jose Mendilibar was sent off in the 50th minute. However, Fabian Orellana gave Eibar the lead from the penalty spot in the 78th, but it wasn’t meant to be as Bilbao tied the game at one just three minutes later. Ultimately, the two sides would share the spoils here as well after a hard-fought matchup.
I have gone back and forth on this game, but the one thing that keeps sticking out to me is how resilient Getafe have been in the fact of adversity this season. Eibar’s fought some battles in their own right, but I just think that Getafe is the better team that’s set up in the better spot to get a result from this match and to get some extra value out of the best, I’ll side with Getafe to win with both teams to score – no for decent sized plus money.
