Bayern Munich host Freiburg in Bundesliga Soccer action from the Allianz Arena on Saturday morning.
Bayern Munich enter this match after having lifted the Bundesliga title for the 8th straight season with a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen in their last match to improve to 76 points with a record of 24 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses. In the victory over Werder Bremen, Robert Lewandowski gave Bayern the lead two minutes before halftime, and the defending champions would carry the pace for most of the match in that regard with 60% possession at full time. Munich would go down to 10 men when Alphonso Davies was sent off for a second yellow card, but Werder Bremen wouldn’t be able to capitalize as Bayern held on for all three points and lift the trophy with the clinching victory. Lewandowski’s goal gave him a team-high and league-leading 31 goals this season while Serge Gnabry has 12 goals with 10 assists. Philippe Coutinho has 8 goals and 6 assists while Thomas Muller has 7 goals and a team-high 20 assists this season. Manuel Neuer is Bayern’s top goalkeeper, conceding 0.91 goals per 90 minutes with 14 clean sheets in 32 league appearances this season.
Freiburg on the other hand, sit in 8th place on 45 points with a record of 12 wins, 9 draws and 11 losses following a 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin in their last match. In the win over Hertha, the game was scoreless at the half with just one booking but Freiburg would catch the game’s first break after Hertha’s opening goal in the 52nd minute was disallowed following a VAR review tht determined a foul in the buildup to the goal. Vincenzo Grifo gave Freiburg the lead just after the hour mark, but Hertha would tie the game from the penalty spot just five minutes later. Nils Petersen would get Freiburg the lead back just five minutes after that, and that was all Freiburg would need as they’d ride out the final 20+ minutes on the way to victory. Petersen leads Freiburg in scoring with 11 goals this season while Grifo has 4 goals with a team-high 7 assists and Christian Gunter has 6 assists as well on the year.
This is a tough game to call as Bayern has nothing left to play for except pride, momentum and to keep their unbeaten run in the league going while Freiburg is still in the thick of the hunt for the last Europa league spot. It may be worth looking into the lineups before match time to see if Bayern make any changes and maybe if the heavy plus money with Freiburg is worth a look. With that said, I think we see a competitive game that sees both sides put their best foot forward, and since the last three matches have seen both teams score, I’ll side with both teams to score as my main bet for this match.
