Valladolid and Celta Vigo clash in La Liga soccer action from the Estadio Jose Zorrilla on Wednesday afternoon.
Valladolid come into this match currently sitting in 14th place with a record of 7 wins, 11 draws and 10 losses, tied with Alaves on 32 points after a 2-1 win over Leganes in their last match. In the win over Leganes, Enes Unal gave Valladolid the lead after just two minutes, and the lead would hold until Ruben Alcaraz doubled the advantage in the 54th minute. Leganes would pull a goal back from the penalty spot with eight minutes to play, but in the end it wouldn’t be enough as Valladolid held on for the win and three key points in the fight for survival. Sergi Guardiola leads Valladolid in scoring with 6 goals while Unal has 5 goals on the year. Jordi Lopez is the top goalkeeper for Valladolid this season, conceding 1.04 goals per 90 minutes with 8 clean sheets in 28 league appearances this season.
Celta Vigo on the other hand, enter this one sitting in 17th place, just one point clear from safety on 26 points with a record of 5 wins, 11 draws and 12 losses after a 1-0 loss to Villarreal in their last outing. The match was scoreless in the first half, and despite holding just 40% possession with 4 goal attempts and no shots on goal, Vigo looked like they’d pick up a point from a scoreless draw, but Villarreal would pull out the winner in stoppage time , leaving Vigo empty-handed with no points to show for their efforts. Iago Aspas leads Celta Vigo in scoring with 9 goals while Denis Suarez and Lucas Olaza each had a team-high 3 assists on the year. Ruben Blanco is the top goaltender for Celta Vigo, conceding 1.19 goals per 90 minutes with 7 clean sheets in 26 league appearances this season.
I considered the plus money with Valladolid at home considering that they are unbeaten at home this season to teams that are currently below them in the standings coming into this match, going 3-1-0 this season. However, the home form still leaves a lot to be desired and Vigo hasn’t been all that strong on the road either to the point where I’d favor them in this spot. Instead, I’m going to side with the draw. Vigo’s drawn six matches away from home and Valladolid’s tied seven games at home this season and there’s just not much separating the sides here, leading me to believe we will finish all square in this match as well. I’m also going to put a bit on the 0-0 half time score as well, as each of Vigo’s last ten matches have seen that score at the break.
Chris’s Pick Draw +195 / 0-0 half time score +130
