Manchester United is welcoming Newcastle United to Old Trafford in part of Boxing Day round 19 of the English Premier League.

Just when you think that Manchester is finally playing well and is consistent, they go on and play the worst game of the season, against the worst team in the EPL. This was the game versus Watford away from home where Manchester had 64% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 84% of the correct passes. Manchester’s attack was solid in this game despite not scoring a goal, but their defense and goalkeeping were horrible, and Manchester lost this match 2-0. With 25 points, 26 scored goal, and 22 conceded goals Manchester is in 8th place in the standings and their hopes of ending up in the top 4 are just dreams now. I’m afraid that the only way Manchester will get qualified for the Champions League is for them to win the Europa League, for which they have solid chances, but it won’t be easy. Rashford has scored 10 goals for United this season and was the most consistent player for this club. Young superstar Daniel James added 5 assists. Bailly and Fosu-Mensah are injured while Pogba is finally healthy, even though the rumors were that he wasn’t even injured. Pogba just didn’t want to play because he wants to leave Manchester. If Manchester were playing against the top 6 teams every week, they would be the best club in the EPL, but as soon as they are playing a team from the bottom half of the standings, Manchester is playing like crap, and that is something coach Solskjaer must fix as soon as possible, while he is still the head coach.

Newcastle is a solid team with some really good players Joelinton, Saint-Maximin, Longstaff, and Almiron. Newcastle has been in a good form as of late and has lost only 3 of their last 10 games. After a bad start of the season, Newcastle is now in 9th place in the standings with 25 points, 18 scored goals, and 24 conceded goals. In their latest EPL match versus Crystal Palace at home, Newcastle had 42% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and only 77% of the correct passes. Newcastle’s defense was outstanding in this match, and Almiron was able to score the winning goal for Newcastle in 83rd minute and the game ended 1-0. Shelvey is Newcastle’s top goalscorer with only 5 goals and if they want to stay this high up, or even higher, Newcastle’s attack must start producing more goals. Ritchie, Lascelles, Saint-Maximin, Clark, and Ki are injured, and coach Steve Bruce will not have them at his disposal. All these injuries could potentially be the big problem for Newcastle because the schedule is getting busy, and in the next three games Newcastle is playing some good teams. Newcastle is a good team who lost some key players before the season started and because of that they had a rough start of the season, but Newcastle is in a good form now and they have a good idea of what they are capable of in this extremely competitive EPL. I’m not sure that Newcastle has the depth to stay consistent throughout the season, but I hope they can because it will make the season much more interesting.

Usually, I would side with the favorite in this matchup, which is Manchester United, but I’m just don’t think they are good enough for me to stake the money on them. Newcastle is a good team capable of scoring goals, and let’s be honest Manchester is not playing good defense. I will pick something on goals here.
