Leicester City is welcoming the leader of the English Premier League Liverpool to King Power Stadium in part of round 19 on the Boxing Day.
Leicester is playing fantastic soccer this season, the best in the EPL alongside Liverpool and Manchester City. With only 1 loss in their last 12 games, Leicester is in second place in the EPL standings with 39 points, 10 points less than Liverpool at the top. Offensively, Leicester is fantastic with 41 scored goals, but their defense has been extraordinary, and Leicester has conceded only 14 goals in 18 games. In their latest EPL match versus Manchester City away from home, Leicester had only 38% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 0 corner kicks, and 81% of accurate passes. Leicester had the lead in 22nd minute when Vardy scored a fantastic goal, but that didn’t last long, and City turned the table before the half time. In the end, Manchester City scored another goal and has won this match 3-1. Vardy is Leicester’s leading goal scorer and EPL’s leading goal scorer with 17 goals in 18 games. James Matty is the only injured player which is great news for coach Rodgers ahead of this busy schedule. Leicester is reminding us of that Leicester team that won the title a few years ago, but I’m afraid that the 10-point difference between them and Liverpool is too much. I’m not saying that is impossible, but Liverpool is simply playing too well this season. I love this Leicester team and the soccer they are playing, and I really enjoy seeing the smaller EPL team being this high in the standings.
Liverpool is still at the top of the EPL and still unbeaten in the EPL. Lately, it seems that whatever is thrown at this Liverpool team, they will get over it with a smile on their faces. Most recently Liverpool has won the Club World Cup competition in Doha against Brazilian Flamengo. In their last EPL match versus Watford 10 days ago, Liverpool had 67% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 83% of accurate passes. Liverpool was in control of this match and has displayed calm, steady and patient soccer and has won this match 2-0. Liverpool is playing 3 games in the next three days against some great teams, but I believe Liverpool can stay unbeaten in all three games. Salah and Mane are Liverpool’s top goal scorers with 9 goals each, while Alexander-Arnold has 6 assists. Fabinho, Matip, and Clyne are injured, while Lovren is questionable but probable for this match. Liverpool is playing great soccer this season, with strong defense and midfield, fantastic goalkeeping, and good offense with the killer counterattacks. If I had to choose one aspect of Liverpool’s game above anything else, that is their ability to outrun any team they play against and to keep constant pressure when not in the possession of the ball. In the Champions League Liverpool will be playing against Atletico Madrid in the top 16. Liverpool is finally playing good enough soccer and has mature enough team to win that so much desired EPL title, and I believe that they will.
This is the clash between two of the best offensive teams in the EPL, and two teams from the top of the standings. When Leicester and Liverpool meet that is usually the guarantee of a great game with plenty of chances and goals. With that being said, Liverpool’s players might be tired from all the traveling and all the games at the Club World Cup, so I decided to take something on goals here.
