Over 2.5 (-175), Under 2.5 (+137)
Bournemouth is hosting Arsenal at Vitality Stadium in the Boxing Day round 19 of the English Premier League.
Bournemouth can’t catch a break and they lost 6 of their last 7 games. With 19 points, 19 scored goals, and 25 conceded goals, Bournemouth is in 14th place in the EPL standings. In their last EPL match versus Burnley at home, Brighton was the better team with 64% of ball possession, but 0 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 77% of the accurate passes. Overall it was a good game for Bournemouth despite the lack of attacking imagination, and even their defense was solid for most of the game. In the end, Bournemouth conceded a goal in 89th minute and has lost this match 0-1. For now, Bournemouth is safe outside the relegation zone, but the point difference is small, and there are still a lot of games left in the EPL. Harry Wilson has scored 6 goals for Bournemouth, while Callum Wilson added 5 goals. Brooks, Daniels, Cook, Smith, Ake, Wilson, and Danjuma are all injured, and this could be a disaster for coach Eddie Howe. The defense was something that Bournemouth pride themselves in the past, but that defense is nowhere to be seen this season and that is something coach Howe must fix as soon as possible, otherwise, this will be an extremely hard season for Bournemouth.
Arsenal has hired the new head coach after firing Unai Emery a few weeks ago after a series of bad results. The new head coach is Pep Guardiola’s pupil, Mikel Arteta. Arteta used to play for Arsenal, and his coaching style and game style will be like the one of Guardiola and Manchester City. I personally think that Arteta is a good choice for Arsenal and potentially he is a long-term solution for Arsenal. Arsenal has only 23 points this season and is in 11th place in the EPL standings. Neither Arsenal’s attack or defense is playing good and Arsenal has scored only 24 games in 18 games while conceding 27 goals. Arsenal has won only 1 of their last 13 games and that was including the Europa League. Everyone in, and around the club is hoping that Arteta can finally snap this terrible streak Arsenal is on. In their last EPL match against Everton, Arsenal had 57% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 83% of the correct passes. This was one of the worst games in the history of the EPL and it ended in a 0-0 draw. Aubameyang is the only bright thing in Arsenal this season and he has scored 11 goals so far, while Lacazette added 5 goals. Tierney and Kolasinac are injured and they will have to wait for another opportunity to play for the new head coach. In the Europa League, Arsenal has qualified past the group stage and will play against Olympiacos. It’s always interesting to see how a team can play such crappy soccer in the league, while playing fantastic soccer in the European competition, and that is the case with this Arsenal team. Arsenal’s chances to win the Europa League are pretty good, and basically, this is the only way they could get qualified for the Champions League next season because I don’t see Arsenal ending up in the top 4 of the EPL.
It’s hard to back the team that has been playing bad as Arsenal did, but on the other hand, so did Bournemouth. With the new coach at the helm, I see Arsenal finally getting a win here to finally end up this winless streak.
