Over 2.5 (-125), Under 2.5 (+100)
Watford is welcoming Manchester United to Vicarage Road Stadium in round 18 of the English Premier League.
No matter what Watford does, they can’t win a game. Watford is on a 5-game streak without a win, while they won only 1 of their last 12 games. With only 9 points from 17 games, only 9 scored goals and 32 conceded goals, Watford is in the last place of the EPL standings and if they don’t start winning some games, Watford will get relegated. In their last EPL game versus Liverpool away from home, Watford had only 33% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 64% of the accurate passes. Watford was forced to defend throughout the entire match, as many other teams were against Liverpool as well, and Watford lost this match 2-0. Watford is a disaster in absolutely every aspect of the game, and it doesn’t look the situation will improve any time soon. Andre Gray and Deulofeu have both scored 2 goals for Watford so far. As far as the injuries go, only Welbeck and Holebas are still injured, which means that Cleverley, Prodl, Janmaat, and Pereyra could be in the lineup for this match. This is great news for coach Pearson and all Watford fans because those players could be the key to get Watford back on track. Watford is a solid team who entered a bad spell at the beginning of the season and I’m confident they will turn things around. The point difference between Watford and Aston Villa outside the relegation zone is only 6 points which means that Watford still has a shot to stay in the EPL next season as well.
Manchester United seems to be waking up, but I’m still not convinced in their game. United is on a 5-game streak without a loss and is now in 6th place in the EPL standings with 25 points. In their last 5 games, Manchester United has scored 16 goals which are great considering how lousy they were just a few weeks ago. In their last EPL match versus Everton at home, Manchester was solid with 66% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 86% of accurate passes. Manchester was the better team here, but they were struggling in the attacking part and they conceded an own goal and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. United has scored 26 goals in 17 games which isn’t bad, but for a team that wants to be in the top 4, this is just not enough. The defense also hasn’t been on the required level since the season started and Manchester conceded 20 goals. Rashford has been pretty much only shining star for Manchester this season and he scored 10 goals so far. Daniel James is one of the most talented young players in the world and he added 5 assists. Rojo, Pogba, Fosu-Mensah, and Bailly are injured and will not be playing. In the Europa League, Manchester will play against Club Brugge in the first round of the knockout stage, and with all due respect to Brugge, I like United’s chances in this matchup. Solskjaer has become Manchester’s head coach during a very tough time last season and was able to turn things around in a short period of time, but unfortunately, that didn’t last for long. This season Manchester is playing hot and cold, and if Solskjaer wants to stay the head coach, United must be more consistent. Manchester schedule is on the lighter side in the next 4 games and this could be the perfect opportunity for United to get some points.
I would have to be crazy to side with Watford in their current form. Despite all the flaws in their game, United is the better team in this matchup and I will take a stab at Manchester United.
