Over 2.5 (-135), Under 2.5 (+137)
Everton is hosting Arsenal at Goodison Park in one of the most interesting games of round 18 of the English Premier League.
Everton is slowly waking up after starting this season in a disastrous way. With 18 points in 17 games, Everton is in 16th place but they are still too close to the Relegation zone. In their last EPL match versus Manchester United away from home, Everton had only 34% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and only 67% of the correct passes. Despite low possession and the correct passes, Everton was leading 0-1 but Manchester was able to come back in 77th minute and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Richarlison has scored 6 goals for Everton so far, while Calvert-Lewin added 5 goals. Gbamin and Gomes are injured while Delph and Walcott will finally join the rest of the team and they will be in the lineup for this match. Recovery of Delph and Walcott is really good news for coach Ferguson because with Delph Everton is getting some security and experience in the midfield, and another dimension in the attacking part with Walcott. Everton is a good team with some great players, and they are finally getting something they were missing under former coach, players are playing like a team and are fighting until the final whistle. Can Everton end up in the top 10 in the EPL, absolutely, because the difference is only 4 points, and the season is very long.
Arsenal is a disaster right now and not even their new coach Freddie Ljungberg can get them out of this slump. Arsenal has won only 1 of their last 12 games, but I suppose the good news is that Arsenal scored at least 1 goal in 10 of those 12 games. With only 22 points, 24 scored goals, and 27 conceded goals Arsenal is in 10th place in the EPL standings. In their last EPL match versus Manchester City at home, Arsenal was a disaster with only 42% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 87% of the correct passes. I understand that it’s hard to have bigger possession against Manchester City who is always in control, but having only 1 shot on goal at home, that is something I can’t understand. Arsenal has lost this match 0-3. Aubameyang has scored 11 goals for Arsenal this season, while Lacazette added 5 goals. Ceballos, Xhaka, and Tierney are injured, while Bellarin and Holding are still questionable. Arsenal has a solid team with some very good young players, but unless Arsenal starts winning some games, their ambitions are gone. Does Arsenal have enough quality and depth to end in the top 4, they sure do, but I don’t see Arsenal higher than 6th place this season. As far as the Europa League goes, Arsenal is the main favorite to win that competition because they were playing great soccer and their opponent in the first game of the knockout stage is Olympiacos which is not a great team. Freddie Ljungberg has just started as Arsenal’s head coach and it will take some time for him to implement his ideas and game plan, but we are yet to see if he is even capable of doing that.
To be honest, I have no idea who to pick here. Both Everton and Arsenal are in a bad form and they are both in desperate need of a win. Everton has had some success against Arsenal at home, but after taking all things into consideration, we are getting a better price with Arsenal, and they are the better attacking team whose strikers are playing in a better form. For that reason, I will pick Arsenal here.
