Over 2.5 (-225), Under 2.5 (+175)
Borussia Dortmund is welcoming RB Leipzig in a derby match of round 16 of German Bundesliga.
Borussia has had a really good week last week when first they got qualified to top 16 in the Champions League by beating Slavia Prague at home, and then Borussia has beaten Mainz in Bundesliga away from home. In that match, Borussia had 63% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 86% of the correct passes. Borussia has won this game 0-4 and has climbed to third place in Bundesliga standings. Borussia is now on a 4-game winning streak where they scored 13 goals and conceded 2 goals which means that their defense is improving and gaining some consistency. Reus is the leading goal scorer for Borussia with 9 goals, while Sancho has 8 goals and 8 assists. Delaney, Schmelzer, and Witsel are injured and will not play in this game. Borussia has started this season with hopes of taking the title from Bayern Munich, but their sloppy defense has cost them a lot of points so far. Borussia has 29 points right now and is 4 points away from Leipzig at the top. After years of Bayern’s domination, Bundesliga is finally interesting again because there are 7 teams between 7 points right now, and unfortunately, Borussia is not the main competitor to Bayern anymore. Borussia has 2 more games in Bundesliga this year, and this Christmas break might not be a good thing for them right now when Borussia has finally getting consistent and is playing good defense.
Leipzig is playing good soccer since the season started and is now in the first place thanks to Wolfsburg beating M’gladbach this past weekend. Leipzig is on a 10-game streak without a loss right now both in Bundesliga and in the Champions League. In the Champions League, Leipzig got qualified to Top 16 by ending the group stage in the first place of their group with 11 points, 10 scored goals, and 8 conceded goals. In the Bundesliga, Leipzig is the best offensive team with massive 42 scored goals, and the best defensive team with only 16 conceded goals in 15 games. In their last Bundesliga game versus Fortuna away from home, Leipzig was absolutely stunning with 70% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks, and high 92% of the correct passes. Leipzig was by far the better team here in every aspect of the game and has won this match 0-3. Timo Werner has scored 16 goals in Bundesliga for Leipzig so far and is keeping up with Lewandowski who has 18 goals for the Bundesliga top goal scorer. Nkunku added 7 assists for Leipzig. Adams, Konate, Orban, and Kampl are injured and will not be in the lineup. Julian Nagelsmann was signed as the head coach of this club in the summer of this year after having some great results with Hoffenheim for 3 seasons before that, and once again he is doing a fantastic job with Leipzig. I think that Leipzig has a great team, with enough depth to compete for the title in the Bundesliga, and they might actually be the main favorite to win it, but in the Champions League, I’m not sure how far can Leipzig get, but they can certainly surprise us.
This is a clash between two of the best-attacking teams in Bundesliga and two of the main favorites for the title. Both Borussia and Leipzig had a busy last week and players might be tired, but that is not going to stop me to take something on goals here.
