Liverpool is hosting Tottenham at Anfield in a derby match of this weekend’s round 10 of the English Premier League.
Liverpool is playing fantastic soccer and is winning both in the EPL and in the Champions League. Earlier this week Liverpool has beaten Genk 1-4 in the Champions League. In the EPL Liverpool is at the top of the standings with 25 points, 21 scored goals and only 7 conceded goals, and Liverpool is yet to lose a game. Sadio Mane is Liverpool's top goalscorer with 5 goals, followed by Salah with 4, and Firmino with 3 goals. Salah, Firmino, and Robertson all added 3 assists in this early season. In their last EPL match against Manchester United, Liverpool was unusually sloppy with the ball despite having 68% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and 84% of correct passes. This was fun and pretty rough game which ended in a 1-1 draw. Clyne and Shaqiri are both injured and coach Jurgen Klopp won't be able to count on them for this match. Liverpool is playing great soccer with high possession and compact midfield and the thing that makes Liverpool the most dangerous, high off ball pressure. Liverpool looks pretty invincible at the moment and the season without the defeat is not excluded but with so many good teams in the EPL, I don't see that happening.
Tottenham was in a huge slump for the last two months and their blowout win against Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League was just the thing this team needed to wake up. Tottenham was fantastic and dominant in this match and has won 5-0. With 3 wins, 3 draws, and 3 loses Tottenham is in the 7th place with only 12 points from 9 games. In their last EPL match against Watford, Tottenham was attacking and has had 69% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 11 corner kicks, 86% of corner kicks. Tottenham struggled on the offensive end and wasn't able to score a goal until the end of the game when they tied the score and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world and is the leading goalscorer for Tottenham with 5 goals. Sessegnon and Hugo Lloris who is Tottenham's first goalkeeper are injured and will not be in the lineup for this match. Not having his star goalie could be the problem for coach Pochettino and Tottenham because their defense is shaky enough and Lloris was the one who often bailed the out. When healthy and playing their signature strong soccer Tottenham is one of the best teams in England but I'm not convinced quite yet that Tottenham is out of this slump. Tottenham has scored at least 1 goal in 9 of their last 10 matches and they will look to continue this trend against one of the best teams in the EPL.
Both Liverpool and Tottenham played in the Champions League this week and I think this will be a fun game with a lot of goal chances. I'm giving a small advantage to Liverpool because they are playing in a better form but if Tottenham will be in the right state of mind, they could surprise Liverpool in their stadium.
