Over 2.5 (-138), Under 2.5 (+110)
Schalke is hosting Borussia Dortmund at VELTINS-Arena in a derby match of round 9 of German Bundesliga.
Schalke is playing some solid soccer this season and is in 7th place in the standings with 14 points, 14 scored goals and 9 conceded goals. Schalke has won 3 of their last 5 matches but has conceded at least 1 goal in all of those 5 games. In their last match against Hoffenheim, Schalke was the better team with 58% of ball possession, but only 1 shot on goal, 8 corner kicks, and 82% of correct passes. Schalke was struggling offensively in this game, but their biggest problem was the defense which wasn't on the level and they lost 2-0. Schalke's top goalscorer is Harit with 4 goals while Serdar has 3 goals. Bentaleb is the only injured player and will not be playing this weekend. Schalke is playing well-balanced soccer and coach Wagner is doing really good job and with this solid results on the start of this season, both the clubs management and the fans and even the players are sensing that better days for Schalke are coming and that Schalke is coming closer to the top 5 in Bundesliga where they belong. I still think there will be some ups and downs for Schalke throughout the season and they might not end up in the top 5 this season, but with some smart signings, next season could be a potential breakthrough for Schalke.
Borussia Dortmund is playing excellent attacking soccer and is scoring a ton of goals, but their defense is still inconsistent and that has cost them a lot of points in the last few weeks. Borussia hasn't lost any of their last 8 games but has 4 draws during that stretch and those were all games they should have won. In their last match against M'gladbach, Borussia was solid with 54% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 10corner kicks, and 80% of correct passes. Both teams were struggling offensively but this was the first game for Borussia where their defense stepped up and because of that, they won 1-0. Borussia has a lot of offensive firepowers starting with Alcacer and Reus who are the top goalscorer with 5 goals each and Jadon Sancho who has 3 goals 5 assists. Sancho wasn't in the lineup last weekend because he was late to return from international duty and was suspended by Borussia Dortmund for a game. Paco Alcacer is injured and will not be in the lineup for this match. Borussia is playing a Champions League match this week against Inter in Milan which is expected to be an awesome and fun game to watch. Borussia is at the top of their group in the Champions League and I would say that the win means more to Inter then Borussia Dortmund. Borussia was close to the title in Bundesliga for a few seasons now but always slipped up in the end. This season could finally be the breakthrough season for them if they manage to get some consistency on the defensive end because I think that Bayern is going to focus more on the Champions League.
Both teams are really good in the attacking part and for that reason, I'm going to pick something on goals here.
