Atletico Madrid is welcoming Athletic Bilbao to Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in part of round 10 of Spanish LaLiga.

Atletico Madrid is one of the best three teams in Spain and it has been for years and is also the best defensive team in the world thanks to their coach Diego Simeone. Five of the last 9 games for Atletico ended in a draw and that is because Atletico Madrid doesn’t play attacking soccer and lacks offensive imagination. In their last match against Valencia, Atletico had 43% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, only 2 corner kicks, and only 79% of correct passes. It was the usual game for Atletico with a lot of fouls, plenty of cards including a red card and not a lot of goal chances. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Atletico played in the Champions League earlier this week against Bayer Leverkusen and has won that game 1-0 at home. Atletico Madrid has scored only 8 goals in 9 games in LaLiga but has conceded only 5 goals. With 16 points Atletico is in 5th place in the standings. Vitolo, Costa, and Felix each have 2 goals for Atletico Madrid. Sime Vrsaljko and Stefan Savic are the only two injured players for Atletico Madrid and coach Simeone will have his best players at his disposal. Atletico is playing defensive soccer against most of the teams and because of their game style, I don't see them coming close to the title in LaLiga and the Champions League.

Athletic Bilbao is a solid LaLiga team who hasn’t won any of their last 4 matches and has scored only 4 goals in their last 6 matches. With 13 points, 8 scored goals, and only 5 conceded goals, Athletic is in 8th place in the standings. In their last match against Valladolid at home, Athletic was the better team in every aspect of the game and has had 52% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 79% of correct passes. Inaki Williams scored a goal in the first half and put Athletic ahead, but the defense was not on the level and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Athletic Bilbao doesn't play in the European competitions and that is a potential advantage for them against the top LaLiga teams who are playing on three fronts. Raul Garcia is the leading goal scorer for Athletic Bilbao with 4 goals while Williams has 2 goals. Ander Copa added 3 assists. Berchiche is the only injured player for Athletic Bilbao and will not be playing in this match. Gaizka Garitano is Athletic's head coach since December of last year and has brought a dose of stability to this team, but the problem for Athletic Bilbao is on the attacking end where they just can't keep up with the top dogs in LaLiga. In my opinion, Athletic has the quality to be in the top 6 in LaLiga, but their game style is not good enough and they lack consistency on both ends of the field.

I will put aside all head to head trends and current forms of Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao and I will take a stab at a draw here.
